I love these pics.

Do any of you fellow photographers know what this type of shot is called?
And how do you get the see-through effect?

it's unlikely a shot, prob a photochop
if it is a shot it's just a multi-exposure

two tripod mounted shots superimposed on each other. one with the hood closed and one with hood open.

outer edges of the hood are too solid, that's what makes me say Pchop
a multi-exposure would show more continuity

I'm not really a Photoshop guru, but you think I can superimpose two pics together?
I'm gonna give it a try

i think it's done in layers..
drop one on top of another and then erase "thinly"

opacity

also decrease the opacity level to around 70 for the motor layer and that will make it look like the hood is see through
make sure the layer which will be showing the motor is ontop of the car/hood closed layer.

I'm going to take some photos of my car today and try it.
But in the open layer (hood open) the hood would show being open. So to do what they did they took off the hood..?

if you paste closed shot over the engine shot and it would remove the open hoood, then erase thinly, or select the area over the engine and lower the opacity level.

or if you do the engine shot over the closed hood shot, just erase the area where the hood is on the picture that has the hood and because they are one over the other you wont really be able to tell....as long as you do not move the camera what so ever so that the angles and what not are all the same.

same thing as i would have used to do something like this...not sure how long picture will stay up.......

Good luck!

looks pretty good..
i'd have left more to the outer edges tho...who wants to see the hood latch/fender bolts etc...know what i mean?? tighten it up
too much tree reflection as well imo, distracting, takes away from the subject...the motor

damn good first attempt tho

ya sorry about the tree i didn't realize the reflection when I took it.
So for my second try:
layer 1: open hood
layer 2: closed hood - erased the centre to clearly show the engine.
layer 3: closed hood - set the opacity to 52% and Fill at 71%
* If it wasn't for that tree reflection...and maybe a K swap it would have been better
