Clean looking d16 motor (pics inside)

How does one go about getting a motor looking like this ?
What exactly is the process ?
Has the motor been hot tanked, then sprayed with silver paint ?
How about the aluminum parts ??

PurpleStuff 02-Apr-2010 02:26 AM

looks fcukin minty mint!!!!! matches the engine bay as well. Also, what the hell is the point of that? A car is meant to be driven, not sitting in a garage, to be driven only 1 hr on a day of the weekend.

JDMej1 02-Apr-2010 08:39 AM

sooo clean

Harrold 02-Apr-2010 09:56 AM

First of all I'm so jealous of that engine OMG!

He definately sprayed it silver, just look at the cardboard box the tranny is sitting on.. Overspray errrwhere.

And who cares even if it is a daily driver. He's obviously a perfectionist so i'm sure he'll take the time to clean it once and a while.

chris_v2 02-Apr-2010 10:01 AM

Didn't even clean up the bolts... tisk tisk

thats not a fair comparison . You are comparing apples to oranges. One thing is washing your car at the local carwash for 10 $ , then its a whole different thing taking out the whole engine to have it wash/clean like in the pic (probably 1000s) . :D

Robb 02-Apr-2010 01:22 PM

Its not a brand new motor.... if it was brand new, I doubt he would paint it.

why not? .. Its a lot easier to paint a brand new motor than to clean and old one ( prob rust) and then paint it and try to make it look like a new one.

Damn if i bought i brand new motor i will probably do the samething , may as well do it now that the motor is out and it is easier since its brand new..

Robb 02-Apr-2010 01:27 PM

^^ Do you have any idea how much a brand new crate motor + tranny from Honda costs ?? $$$$$ It's not new trust me.
Im sure he hot tanked the entire motor and tranny then painted it.

around 7- 8 k .. i m gussing..

Trust me some people dont care. Back in high school my friends dad shipped a brand new motor from japan for his civic. Costed him 10 000 !!! but thats what he wanted. He had money so to drop 10gs wasnt really a big deal when you have a business and you can write it off ( i guess that what he did) .

Anyways you could be right but i m sure he used many new parts

rick10 02-Apr-2010 01:35 PM

looks great though . Wish my motor looked like that :pout:

I agrees with Chris_V2 on this one. all that time money and effort and he's got rusty nuts? Chris I'm hoping he just stuffed in the old hardware to keep paint out of the threads and will be using new stuff for the install.

I have no pics but to some people a "clean" engine bay is top priority. I know a guy with a EK sedan, it's been through a turbo d16y7 auto, transformed to a k24 w/ 6 speed and then now has a b16 under the hood and more then I'm sure he cares to admit spent just on taking out all the 10mm head bolts he could and replacing them with passwordjdm bolts.

I havent been following the build thread, but Im pretty sure the nts and bolts were
replaced with new ones, and the header was wrapped.
