Little update on my teg since that last photo...

I've got to take some fresh pics since I've changed so much lately. I won't say anything I don't have pics for yet but for the stuff I do have some pics of...

I was prepping for a lapping day with the teg and 2 weeks before the event, my occasional slight grind into 3rd became a need to double clutch every time into 3rd. I ordered a full carbon synchro kit from Synchrotech in cali and less than a week later it was in my hands along with a hardened 3rd collar.

The following monday (with the track day coming up on the end of the week on saturday) I ripped the trans out and apart to find what was a "rebuilt" trans with 2 bolts missing and a random washer stuck to the magnet in the bottom of the casing.

The culprit of the grind (a donor and rare 4.4FD cable B16 trans was needed cause no one makes this part for that specific trans anymore)

Some 10-11 hours later the trans was back in and running good as new. Never felt better in fact. Every gear including reverse all brand spanking new. The trans was great for the lapping day at shannonville the following saturday tho my brakes were another story. I shouldn't say I'm surprised, I basically took a car that maybe made 120hp to the wheels new and added another 60-80 or so, hauling it back down from speed takes a little more effort and after a few laps out the front brakes would be smoking like crazy. Let it cool off and get back out there, stop taking the corner at the end of the back straight so hard and I was able to go quite a while without issues but I wanted to improve on that so as soon as I got home I started looking around for a solution.

2 real answers came to me pretty quick, both were options I'd known about but never really had a need to improve the brakes yet. The first throw money at it, not crazy money I mean that's not a REAL option for me, but for around $550 or so Willwood makes a pretty nice looking 4 piston kit with pads and rotors and it clears most 15" rims, even my winters are 15's so I'm good with that but then the other option made a little more sense to me, not only cheaper, but in the event I need to say, warranty some pads, rotors or even calipers OEM spec parts from most part stores carry decent warrant and are far more readily available then Willwood's. Plus I'm all about making my car a Frankintegra outta parts from other cars so, turns out with no modding a straight bolt up BBK is quite simple on I believe most 88-00 Civics and 90-01 integs. Using the pads and calipers from any DC2 ITR they bolt right up on my teg but the issue is the rotors are either 4 or 5 x 114, not 4x100. I don't wanna do a lug conversion or run adapters (I already run a 32mm front spacer) but conveniently 07 mini cooper (non S) front rotors are the same size as ITR's just 4x100!

Of course the willwoods are probably a much better setup but I think this should do well for my needs, from the stock 10.3" rotor up to an 11.1, a much larger piston in the caliper and far more surface area on the rotors. Ends up looking like this.

I don't think I could get any bigger without moving up to 16's all year round.

Oh and as for the track day, if you pay attention you'll notice I usually take it pretty easy in the corners that really work the brakes unless I was having a lap I really wanted to push. This was my first time on the track, definitely some learning to do and room for improvement but I was pretty happy with how the car performed and held up since for the most part every aspect of what I intended this car to be good at was tested and tortured. The trans held up well, the motor I also built including internals didn't even burn a drop of oil after 500+ km's driving normal plus a lap day. Not bad for a VTEC Honda motor I even do all the tuning on and beat fairly regularly.

What a ride, felt like being in the back seat...smart place to have the camera. You seemed to know the track pretty well, Dustin. Glad you posted that vid.

Was my first time there but I watched a bunch of youtube vids on this track, and followed a few other cars as best as I could earlier. Tho the guys you wanna see their lines are all faster than you, the cars you can keep up with are because they're slower.

Either way, between jobs now so I gotta hold off till I know my new schedule but I really wanna do more events like this. I know for sure I wanna go to the cayuga one sept 14 for my birthday, that's how I like to celebrate. Last year a bunch of my friends and I did a test and tune drag night there for it.

So technically I finally own a Civic again... Its ruff and a big project but I just picked up my 2nd 87 Civic CRX, this time I found an Si instead of the old carb'd Dx I used to have. Tho the carb was fun the Si has just a little more power. At a massive 91hp to the crank this thing was timed by motor trend at 15.6 in the 1/4 so not fast but for a tiny little car from the 80's... Actually the same time as the same year 944.

This is how it sat when I first brought it home.

Interior shot. You can't see it but the car came with a quick release Nakamichi tape deck. (see my instagram @rustycivic for pics of that)

With the few small mods to hold me over for now cause I just can't leave well enough alone, K&N intake hiding under the hood and these old Enkie 92's with Falken RT-615's. I gotta refinish these wheels and get some new tires soon. I'm planning on gold with polished lips and 175/55 r 15 conti's from the rear of smart cars.

And finally a little spirited drive in the country side. For a guy who dailies a lowered integra that scrapes the exhaust and frame regularly, having the chance to drive a car that you can beat on and not stress too much, nice change. Instead of thinking bout the coin dropped in the motor, knowing the motor I wanna put in is sitting in a shed being prep'd, couldn't ask for a better drive.

Oh and I've since lowered the front about 1/2 an inch. After the inevitable motor swap suspension will be next, it's me. Even a 27 year old car all original isn't safe in my hands.

Although that CRX is no spring chicken, it'll be interesting to see what it looks like...and how it performs...after it's been in your possession for a while, Dustin. Looking forward to updates.

Currently the plan is to basically leave the body alone, refinish the rims and new tires, then I'm gonna tuck and shave the engine bay to make it impossibly clean for a car so ruff on the outside. That'll be while I swap what ever motor in that ends up going in. I have the complete swap from am 88 integ, but that would basically be a low hp version of the ballade sport. Part of me kinda wants to stay old school like that tho, part of me wants to build another B series. I'd love to see what the motor I have in my teg would do in the CRX. That or I wanna find a way to boost the car but in a sorta MacGuyver'd way that will add to the sorta rat rod appearance and tie it in with the engine bay. Tho not a lot of room in front of the engine without swapping the rad and even then...

Who knows, I don't and never do until it's done.

Little update on my teg, new summer rims installed, still need to make some suspension adjustments and these tires will probably be toast after a track day I'm planning to attend at the end of the month. So the RE-11's pictured will be replaced by a set of RE-71R's that I have on order, but here is how she sits right now. Grainy cell phone pic...

Like the summer rims. What a relief that winter is done and now track days are once again an option. Looks good.

Yeah I'm pretty excited both about these new wheels and the fact that track season is comming. I bought these wheels because after tracking the car last year, my direction for this build has become much more track focused. Last year I was using my winter rims, some old 15x6 Enkei's that look pretty good for winters but the $150 I payed for them reflected the condition of them and the narrow width wasn't ideal for my 205 section RE-11's which are actually cheater 205's (slightly wider but not quite enough to be called a 215) So after a lot of reading up I found that unless you go up to a 9" width there's no point in going up to a 225, and 215's are next to impossible to get, from my angle, 205 on a 15x8 is ideal. So I was set, looking for a good strong, but light non replica rim in a 15x8 wheel with around a +25 offset but other then 949's which are decent price, shipping adds up, and they have a rep for giving out under the stress of a higher grip tire on the track, they're really meant for miata's on street tires at Auto X events. Everything else I was finding in those specs were either cheap rep rims, heavy "stance" style rims or $$$ for a set of TE-37's. I was honestly about to give up and just buy the RPF1's in 15x7 or 16x8 but the offset of the 16's wouldn't work for future plans and I'd need new tires. Then as I was gonna get the 15x7 a friend sent me a message, Enkei had released the 15x8 +28 version Dec 3rd! They told dealers but haven't even advertised them on their own site cause it's a limited test run for now. I was lucky enough to get a set.

My first time out this year and the Gopro crapped out on me and I toasted a bearing. Second time out and my Gopro was fine, my driver side CV however let go just enough to end my day, still limped all the way home on it, replaced it and the outer boot was still good, but inside was hanging on by a thread. Was pretty lucky it didn't break entirely.

A clip from Wed night open lapping at Cayuga, which for anyone local wanting to track their car, PM me if you'd like to come along when I go. Planning on making it out a few more times this year. Hopefully some Shannonville events but Cayuga is something like $80 prepaid on their site or $100 at the track for a good 4h evening and it's a good crowd of proper enthusiasts. And at a place where is someone gets too excited and does something stupid like 2-step or burn out, no one cares. The meet doesn't get shut down and police upset pulling everyone over or kicking them out of the spot. -end rant, here's the vid...

I know this thread has kinda become about my track days but this is a vid of my last time out for the 2015 season.

Ghost Racing and Project 7 got together and hosted an event at Cayuga, they (and I) are hoping to make this an annual event. Lot of crazy cars out on this day, huge group of Mustangs, the currently fastest 1/4 G8 in Ontario (and probably Canada) a sick old school high boost VW Corrado and some other great cars, oh and a few other Honda fanboys as well.

Long-ish vid, but there's a few good parts peppered in, if you wanna skip ahead to good parts, look for a battle with a subbie and a 350z, then shortly after that is a nice CTS-V.

Digging up an old thread for an update. The CRX I was trying to build, was hit, twice while parked behind the shop so i decided that since really it wasn't a good thing for me to be focused on right now anyway (new house, second kid, life...) that maybe I needed to "promote" the old teg to track slag only and buy a proper daily driver, get my ducks in a row and save for a project car that I plan on acquiring in the not too distant future.

Having just bought an 06 Odyssey Touring for my wife to drive and haul the kids around, we soon realized tho with our 1st about to start school and her about to return to work no long after that, my 4 door Integra, doesn't have a back seat. Even if it did, child car seats today don't fit too well in the back of a 91 Integra with a 6'4 driver. Since I'm gonna need to either pick up or drop off kids places too, time to find a replacement for the good ol' DB1...

4 doors, white, DOHC, VTEC, manual, I could even get techie and say block found in CRV's, head not unlike that found in top of the line Civics and Integra's (RSX)

Ok maybe reaching a little there but still, the new daily for me an almost completely stock TSX Premium. Only mod is a set of wheels I believe are lifted from the TL.

Thought I'd share another little vid of me racing my old 91 integra around at TMP.

Cayuga lapping has become a birthday tradition for me, this is sorta a highlight video.
