Would Like a Quick Spark Plug and ATF Opinion
 

Hey gents, I'm trying to get my 96K service done a bit sooner on my 2005 Special Edition, and wanted to first ask about spark plugs. Has anyone here used NGK G-Powers (PFR6F-GP) without any issues in their 2001-2005 1.7L SOHC engine? They happen to be on sale this week at Canadian Tire, and I'm not opposed to the $17 per spark plug dealer ones since these newer engines seem to be pickier and I know they'll last another 100K easy, but just wondering if I'm clear to use G-Powers if I wanted to as it would help to save a few bucks (they have less platinum on their tip vs. the dealer ones and the Iridiums).

Also curious to get some opinions on whether I should do the ATF drain and fill with the Honda dealer or not. It's easy to do, so I'd rather do it on my own vs. getting charged $100 for a drain and fill, but I know Odysseys and Accords from the same generation had bad auto trannies, and I'm not sure whether this applies to the Civic slushboxes or not.

your good to use any ngk's on your honda engine, when you do a tune up use ngk parts as well. and for the tranny service, i would take it to a place that deals with BG, or something along those lines, and get a proper tranny flush instead of a drain and fill, this way all the gunk is removed from your transmission and it clears out all the fluid from each gear (even reverse). also it lasts longer and is better on your transmission.

im unsure if it works the same with hondas (i dont see why not) but with domestics to do a DIY tranny FLUSH, all you have to do is get yourself a large bucket of tranny fluid, and an empty bucket, of the same size, with a little bit of clean fluid at the bottom. As well you need 2 clear hoses. Remove the tranny cooling lines from the rad, attach said hoses. the line putting fluid into the rad would go to the empty bucket, and the return line would go to the full bucket. Turn the car on, while holding the brakes, shift through all gears several times. You should notice that the fluid coming out is become clearer, and that the tranny is actually sucking up the clean fluid from the full container of clean fluid.

side note, NGK > all for hondas, g powers work great!
