Timing belt and water pump repair

So on one of my Civic's I need the timing belt and water pump repaired. Midas, Active Green and another indy shop in Oakville are all around $500ish. Honda dealer is around $100 more.

My ques is this:
Would you get this job done by a dealership or save the money and go to, say, Active Green?

Its a '03 with 193,000K so no warranty issues by not taking to Honda.

Check out the vendors section right here on TCC for shops you can trust, like HiVelocity tuning, that will give you a great deal on vehicle maintenance. :)

^ agreed. The price difference between and active ross and dealership won't be by much. Just be sure of one thing when you do plan on getting it done, use OEM HONDA TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP, and any other seals that may be needed. (not aftermarket oem compatible, genuine honda products)

I wouldnt personally take it to midas , dealership , active green , they are more going to charge you more and they are more than likely find more problems with your car so that they can charge you more on top of that.. That job you are asking to do is fairly simple ( for any bodyshop) and its a honda , so i m sure they ve done it before...

Check our vendors!

I've lived in Oakville all my life, I know pretty much every single shop in Oakville.

Midas/active green are both jokes.

My shop's in Oakville, give zeeman or myself or message. We'll beat those prices.

Welcome!

Normally, Honda recommends you change your timing belt and water pump around the 140,000km mark. So since your only at 124, you can either do it now, or you can wait some more time and do it later. Also, be sure to check out our vendor list, as many shops would be closer to your preferred area. :)

I've seen belts snap at 120k before. And regardless of the mileage, he's way past the period of time allowable for the timing belt. It's way over due to change.

I would personally do a tensioner too, with the age of the vehicle it's probably seized up.

Agreed with chris. At 120k belt can let loose any time now.

As stated before, drive out west, get it done at hivelocity. Its not that far of a drive, and you can trust them rather than hope for the best, how it is in most shops.

I stand corrected! :pout:

HiVelocity is part of our vendor list. Do a search for them, their ads also pop up in the ad boxes at the top of the page, just refresh the page till you see it ;).

Hey guys, what's the going rate for a timing belt, water pump, and t-belt tensioner from the dealer nowadays for 01-05 Civic base 1.7L engines? Is there a Honda dealer in the west end who gives TCC members a bit of a price break?? I'm in Oakville too, and do my own repair work, but got my '05 a year ago.

Thanks.
