Synthetic oil type?
 
I'm switching to Synthetic oil after this oil change, engine doesn't burn any oil has fairly low K

I see alot of people saying to use 5w40
but isn't that too thick for a regular motor? wouldn't 5w30 be a better choice?

also what brands do you guys prefer

amsoil
castrol
quaker
Mobil etc?

I run Motul with my GSR. I get the stuff from Defcon...

Pm Cam Stableford or read up his Amsoil threads. His info can be very usefull and I have started to use Amsoil products in my new SI.

Some members have found that a 40 weight has helped address certain oil burning issues. Stick with the OEM recommended weight, unless you have reason to do otherwise.
