Speedometer not working ???
 

Hey peeps, i gotta quick question. My speedometer doesnt work, my mechanic has checked the speed sensor, hes also checked the wires by the intake manifold, cleaned them and still nothing.....what could it be ??? Anything would be greatly appreciated !!!

its prob ur cluster. that happened to me. u can pick up another for prob 60 bucks. may not match your kilometers but thats your best bet. GL

although by his nick name it seems he drives an sir so the cluster will be a lot more than 60 $. Another thing you could try is remove the cluster and check that the wires at the back are ok ( no broken wires). I dont see how they could be damage in the back but i guess since you are going to have to remove your cluster , it does not hurt to double check.

If you dont want to spend $$$ to buy another sir cluster then you could ask your mechanic or someone around here if they have a spare cluster that you can use to test before buying a new one. I believe the connectors in the back are the same for ejs or egs . Then again I dont how what year your car is ...

Ive changed the cluster from OEM to a 1.6 cluster and still nothing....everything except the speedometer works.....I guess im using my GPS for speed from now on.... :(

weird. have u installed anything electrically latley? may sound dumb but stuff like that can mess up things in the car.

Nope. No electricals. Could it be my fuses maybe. But that would shut off all the guages. Like I said everything works except the speedometer.

thats really strange. the 1.6 cluster that u put in, was it plug and play?

if its not the cluster then it could only be the sensor vss ( i believe) or the wire . However if it was the wire then it would work on and off therefore it is probably the sensor....

I guess it is time for you to go to highvelocity , those guys are supposed to be pretty good at what they do. This sounds more like an electrical problem so those are the guys you need to go to

i just fixed my speedometer probelm

my fuel gauge would always say full and the speedometer never worked. the CEL would come on if the sensor was faulty or had corrosion in the pins...

i got a new cluster, took the connector apart and used brake cleaner to clean the pins and scraped as much corrosion off as possible... and it all works now after a year i can finally see how much gas i actually have in my tank.

I have the same problem. My old cluster used to read 0km/h and occasionally work, now my SiR cluster just hovers at 30km/h and occassionally kicks in. Had someone check the VSS (even tried changing it, didnt work) cleaned the plug, tested for current to the ECU and the cluster, everything seemed fine. Anyone have any ideas?
