Seafoam and Engine Light
Hey Guys
i Seafoamed my car today, and then changed the oil. The Check Engine Light came on. Any ideas on what it could be? |
jumper pins, discover code.
However, the CEL should go away after a little while.... tho I've NEVER had this problem with seafoam, and I'm a big fan of it. How did you seafoam the car tho.... vacuum line, gas, or oil?? |
i did all three, 1/2 through gas tank, 1/3 through Vacuum Line and 1/3 in the Oil
I changed the oil afterwards, but havent changed the spark plugs yet |
that's fine... did you at any point feel the engine wanting to stall, or did it at any point stall??
I think you'll be a-ok in a couple of days, the light should go away just make sure your gas cap is on tight, cuz that causes a CEL too if it doesnt go away, pull the ECU code and we'lll go from there. any change in driveability? |
The engine seems to be running a lot smoother overall. A little more throttle response, smoother idling
VTEC sounds smoother When the engine was sucking it in through the Vacuum Line, it was revving intermittently on its own, it would suck it up, then bog down, sometimes knock, almost stalled but didnt |
Remove your hazzard fuse under the hood for 30sec should reset the check engine light and return the computer to throwing no codes.
|
no no... the computer will remove the codes by itself after it discovers no fault for I think.... 3 consecutive starts or something like that?? I dunno, but the computer will remove the CEL... the trouble flag will still be set tho as having happened, which is ok... at the next service you can ask them what it was if you're curious, but they'll charge you a diagnostic fee
if the CEL persists, and you don't know how to pull codes, contact lordm and he has the equip to do it for you. |
I figured out how to pull codes, and its a code 17
so VSS, vehicle speed sensor My speedo has been fudged for a couple of months, working occassionally when it wants to, which is rarely strange how the light came on only after i used the seamfoam i didnt know if was my VSS or my speedo before, now to figure out how to tackle it |
there ya go!! :) git er done!
|
i removed my speed senor today, just to see where it was and what it looked like
while i have the harness unplugged, i turned the car on, and the speedo still jumped up to 30km/h so does that mean its still the speed sensor? |
btw, the speed sensor was bolted back in, but the harness was removed
but the Speedo still went back to its usual resting spot |
very strange!! I believe there is a testing procedure for the VSS... hang on
