new battery

my battery keeps failing. My SiR is stored but when i tried to start it , wouldnt start, i had to give it a boost, then other day, it died again. I didnt drive it, i just let it warm up. Is this ok for the battery to die out since im not driving it, or do i need a battery. Whats a good battery overall? I dont know about crappy tire.

why don't you put your battery on an automatic trickle charge so it doesn't die??

Tigga29 05-Feb-2007 10:47 PM

how do i do that? lol

Because you dont drive the car but you start it up the battery probibly isnt getting a charge equal or more than the power used to start the car. Also remember cold wether and battery's dont like each other. I f you can buy a charger from CT if the car is indoors. if not take the battery out and keep it in a dry place and hook up the charger to it.

what is the indoors one called from CT?

if the battery is original to the car, it's due for replacement. my original 98 battery just failed last summer, same thing the car was stored every winter since new.

OEM has a 410 CCA (Cold Cranking Amp) and yours is old and not holding as much charge as a new one. An average crank over takes roughly 120 amps (for a Honda) and at 0 degrees fahrenheit or -17 celsius, you need about 210% which takes it up to 252 amp.

There is also parasitic load (key-off) on the battery, i.e. clock, alarm and whatnot. So if your car is parked for weeks, don't alarm it. Of course, assuming it is parked in a safe environment.

For us Canadians, CCA is the most important figure when it comes to battery shopping. Anything that is made by Johnson Controls Inc. is a good battery to buy. Costco carries them.

Also, for light weight battery that has low CCA, keep it summer use only if you race or track your car (and if you really think the extra 15lbs will slow you down that much).
