Need a little help here PLZ!!
Ok, I think I found the problem with my car, I believe it's a vacuum leak or maybe a problem with the vacuum advance mechanism. I will check thoes out tomorrow and get back on that. But my problem at the moment is my tach, it likes to do a little dance. At idle it is just fine but once you hit the road it will be anywhere from 0 to 8000rpm which Hell I have no problem with I never use it to shift but when I go to sell my car it might be a good idea to have that working. I have been checking the manual and it says nothing about the Tach. I am just wondering is the tach done by a cable, if so where is it and how do I fix this problem. Or is the tach run by vacuum again how do I fix or is it digital?? Ohh yeah car is an '88 Civic SE.

I think its controlled by a tach sensor on the distributor...
not 100% sure.. The speedometer is run by cable. |
distributor

Yeah, so check for loose connections on the distributor clips..
I'm not sure what the color is for the tach wire. You'd have to get a pin layout for the dizzy... Most likely it's just a loose connection otherwise the car would be acting up. Is the ecu showing any codes? The ecu panel is under the passenger foot carpet.. a metal plate with an led in the middle. Turn the key to ignition and see the blinks.. long blink = 10s, short =1s. count them. |
the tach signal wire is generally blue or green

posible u have a problem with ur ign. module or a loose distributor rotor. the tach signal is at the side of the module or igniter with a blue wire
good luck |
