Honda Mechanic Needed
 

I have a 2002 Honda Civic Coupe, I am in need of a mechanic to fix what I believe is the alternator.

I dont want to pour hundreds of dollars into her as I want to sell her in the next few months, however she is sitting dead in my driveway, and need some help to get her going. She gets me to work and back.

Does anyone know of a good mechanic that can help me out. And quickly:mad:.

So, you just need the alternator replaced?

Shop around for the best price and change it yourself if you can. Will save you labor and mark-up costs.

Some of the vendors here on TCC may have alternators at a good price...

You can also check some online stores. I've used www.rockauto.com before to buy parts. I quickly looked up an alternator for an 02 civic and they range from about $135 + shipping, so about $170 shipped to your door!

www.autopartsway.com has a better mitsubishi brand alt for $220 shipped.

Even if you buy one of these, they'll be shipped within a few days to a week at the most and you then only have to pay a mechanic to install it, instead of paying them for the part with severe price mark-up.

Orrrrr, you can go to partsource. It's pricey, not gonna lie, but it has 3yrs warranty...good for you and the next owner.

Rockauto is from the USA, you will get charged with customs and other fees, plus, lets say the alternator doesnt work, are you going to pay for shipping back to them? Alternator is heavy, its not as light as some might think.....

Have you tried a junk yard, like standard? I bought mine from there when I did my swap in september, and it was about 120-150$$ with 6months warrany, so its not that bad. I'd say, give them a try and see what you get.

^That's another good place to try. Didn't even think of that. Forgot they can get just about any part you're looking for new and used.

I've used rock auto with good results. They shipped fast and there was no customs or brokerage fees. I bought 2 upper control arms from them for the accord for $140 shipped (for both). Best I could find here was $135 EACH before tax. I forget what brand they were, but they looked pretty good.

Autopartsway prices are a bit higher, but they I believe they are canadian. They also have free shipping.

Just saying, for the OP, the ONLY option is not just to have to fork out huge money to a given shop to have a part replaced. There are much better options if you do a little research that will save you a lot of money.
