heat plate rattling?

i've got an annoying problem i figure only honda owners may know.

i have an '03 civic coupe, after a while of driving there's a rattling noise when in idle, (sometimes quiet, sometimes loud), coming from under the engine. i've been told it could be a heat plate loose, and to remove it. i can't see it from under or above the engine, but i can hear it!

any ideas?? i would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, could be the heat shielding on the exhaust. Sometimes they get loose and start to rattle.

With the engine off, if you bang on the exhaust with your fist (from under the car) you might be able to replicate the noise and determine exactly where it's coming from...
