grease from the boot...
 

so i took my wheels off to balance them today and the passenger one was covered in grease, upon further inspection i noticed the boot around the driveshaft i think??? the one closest to the wheel was split,
is this ok to drive on for a few days and roughly how much to fix it, and what is the proper name for it lol

It's the half-shaft (or axle) cv joint boot that has split. Eventually it will spew all the grease out and the cv joint will start to stiffen/seize up due to lack of lube. As for cost to replace, not sure.

You can replace the axle yourself, it's not that hard. Shop around for prices for a driver side half-shaft/axle. The driver side is the short one, so it's even easier to replace (compared to the driver side).

that's your outer cv boot from your driveshaft that got torn. i've had the exact same problem on my car, and did not get around to fixing it until ~2 months later, so yes it is possible to drive like that for a while, but i would NOT recommend it. if it loses too much lubrication and dirt/sand gets in there the joint will snap and that will mess a lot of things up. cheapest way to fix it is to do it yourself, but if you don't know how to do that the second cheapest way is to:
1) go to totaljdm and buy a used passenger side driveshaft. they sell them for $40 and i think they should have them in stock, check to make sure both inner and outer boots are in good shape and the joint rotates good.
2) go to any shop and tell them to install it for you. it's easy and should NOT take more than one hour, they'll charge you $80.

if you bring them the driveshaft, they don't need any other parts to put it on for you, so you're only paying for labor. unless your seals are gone, but you're probably okay i wouldn't worry about it. if you don't bring your own driveshaft and have them order it in for you, it'll take way longer and they're gonna charge you way more for getting a new one, so don't bother, just get a used one.

^Indeed. Save yourself some money. Nothing wrong with a used axle, as long as it's in good condition (boots are not ripped or torn, joints rotate/flex smoothly, splines and shaft ends are not damaged).

They're easy to do. You can easily find a DIY for instructions.
