Coolant Problem
 

I've tried reading some posts but nothing resembles what I have.

Been leaking coolant for a bit now. I've had it pressurized, everything ok.
Engine likes to overheat every now and then usually when I'm at low speeds or stopped.

Recently changed the thermostat and new coolant. Thought that fixed it. Then the other day my coolant needle raced up to H again, I pull over, check the hoses, bottom one is cold, top warm. Fan doesn't seem to be running at all. Coolant all over the engine, seems to have sprayed out of the reservoir cap. It only overheated once since then and now the coolant needle stays roughly at 1/2.

My problem now is that at low speeds, there is no heat blowing at me, I'm freezing. If the car is under 50kmh its a blizzard in my car. It only heats up if I drive over 60kmh ish for a while. Once I slow down again, back to cold. The needle doesn't move.

I don't know what to do, just changed the stat, what else could it be?

you should get your coolant system flushed, and your heater core. also your water pump could affect it as well i think.. replace the rad cap too if its leaking there.. or the reservoir cap. hose down all your engine, start your car and let it idle, and try and see where coolant is coming from (could even be a small leak). you could even have a bad seal..

Sounds like either a clogged rad, the thermostat you just put in is defective or not correctly installed.

The thermostat and little bleed rivet needs to be seated in the rubber gasket properly and orientataed up. Seen them leak and or jam up if they slip out of the little slot in the housing, distort and get pinched as the 10mm bolts are retightened. You also need to bleed the system properly with the heater valve control fully opened (in the max hot position).

what i did when i had the same problem was disconnect the rad hose from the head ( the one coming from the heater core) attact a shop vac to it, then disconnect a hose any wear else on the system(i did the supply side of the heater core because that was my problem) then fill a bucket with hot hot water and suck it through the system. worked for me and now it blows hot hot air. if its the rad then do the same thing with the rad hose's or find a spot where you can do the hole system at the same time. Cheaper then getting someone to do it for you.
