Car Reving By Itself??
 

Hey guys,

be-lated merry xmas to ya.

I started my car yesterday leaving best-buy (01 Civic) and it began reving vigourously between 1000-4000rpm. It does not go away either. Have any of you had this type of problem before? With all the cold weather we have been having and not to mention the amount of snow we have up north, Im wondering if it's moisture related, or if it goes deeper then that. Havent had a chance to look at it myself yet, too damn cold...

Any info would be appreciated.

Hey, I had a dream that my car was doing that last night. Too bad it's in the wrong section though!

So the reving doesn't go away even once the car is warmed up?

If so, then you need to check the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) or you may have a vacuum leak somewhere. THE IACV is on the back on the intake manifold.

It should have 2 hoses pluging into the bottom and an wire clip into the side. Disconnect the wire clip and see if it stops.. It should drop to base idle after, so expect it to be reving 500 or below.

Is the ECU throwing any codes?

If it does stop once it's warm, then you need to check the FAST IDLE VALVE.. Based on coolant flow it will regulate more or less air into the intake.

No ECU codes and the hoses are fine, one of the first areas i checked. I have an appointment at Honda tommorow, warranty :)

Ok guys the 2001 and newer civic's have a flashable ecu, so for your car there is an update for this problem..... Go to the dealer and have your ECU flashed and this will solve your problems.

an then they charge u a nice big fee
