Amsoil - Don't Wimp Out On Filtration!!
 

Good lubrication is a 2 edged sword.

First you need a quality base lubricant that will do the job, with enough of the right additives to give it the desireable characteristics you need to meet OEM specs, service life, etc. These additives fight off the deteriorating effects of oil contamination, allowing the lubricant to continue functioning at it's best for the longest period of time. Synthetic oils are virtuallly indestructible, in themselves, but eventually lose their purity and chemistry through contamination.

Secondly, your oil becomes physically contaminated from particles as a result of churning around in your internal combustion engine. In spite of an oils ability to lubricate, it can't do it's job for very long if you throw in a bunch of fine particles to interfere with the process.

Chemically, and physically, keeping your oil clean will spell longer life for your engine.

Most oil threads seem to focus on the oil itself :swords: but seldom focus on the FILTRATION. As far as I'm concerned, good filtration is half the battle.

Especially if you want to take advantage of extended oil drain intervals, and even if you don't, check out Amsoil EA line of filters. They are the best on the market, and are guaranteed for 25,000 miles (which, coincidentally, matches the extended drain interval of many of Amsoils motor oils? go figure :goof: )

Or you dont use synthetic oil at all. IMO if the motor was not built for it, dont use it. We tell people to run only dino juice in the motors we build due to oil consumption problems commonly encountered when using synthetic oil. Many engine builders will say the same thing. But hey, to each their own.

I'm sure we could go at this one for a long time :swords: but, like you said, to each his own, and I'll still share a brew or two with you around the camp fire.

Here are Amsoils comments ....

"Synthetic motor oils are intended for use in mechanically sound engines, that is, engines that don't leak. In such engines, oil consumption will actually be reduced. First, because of the lower volatility of synlubes. Second, because of the better sealing characteristics between piston rings and cylinder walls. And finally, because of the superior oxidation stability (i.e. resistance of synthetics against reacting with oxygen at high temperatures.)"

Maybe custom built engines are different from regular engines? I don't know, you're the pro in this area.

I'm sure you would agree, however, that good filtration is important to the function and longevity of the oil???

Oh i definantly agree with that statement. My only problem is that motors that are built to use sythetic usually have A LOT tighter clearances. The molecular structure of synthetic is a lot smaller than good old dyno juice. Thats all im saying.
