99 civic spark plug gapping question
 

hey everyone,

this is my first post and i look forward to being a part of this community.

so i bought some NGK plugs (ZFR5F-11) 4593 and they come pre-gapped at 0.044.

I am wondering if i have to change the size of the gap or if i can just install them with the pre-gap?

99 honda civic LX
1.6 L non-Vtech

Check your owner's manual for spec's. Or if you don't have the manual, there should be a sticker on the inside of the hood that has spec's listed.

No you don't need to gap them.
I believe the 11 in ZFR5F-11 means that they are pre-gapped to 0.044". So if those are the required spark plugs for your application then that would be the proper gap.

Apply a little anti-seize to the threads of the spark plugs and let the engine cool down before removing the spark plugs.

So does that mean NGK plugs come pre-gapped? I didn't know that.

^^^ not all ngk plugs come pre-gapped. even the ones that do, you should always double check cause even tho they may be pre gapped to a certain set amount, all 4 plugs you get may not have the correct gap and all 4 may be different. dont just assume its exact.

I had the type 4 service done recently on my 99 civic sedan (96500KM). I asked the service advisor if i can get the premium or platinum plugs instead of regular ones. He told me the car does not really require platinum plugs.

Putting platinum plugs in this civic will not make any material difference in performance.

I wonder if this is true or not? What do you guys think???
