2001 Civic Si, blowing cold air

So my 2001 Civic Si, is warming up ok according to my gauge but I'm getting cold air in the car no heat until I hit the highway or a stretch of road that I can get my RPMS up, is this a water pump issue?? The fluid level seems ok.

Thanks

On a vehicle with a plastic water pump, it would be the pump, but yours is aluminum and if it broke off, you'd know, lol.

Your problem sounds like you have a slight leak that is creating air in the cooling system. Find the leak, fix it, properly bleed the cooling system and you should have no problems.

Now, I hate to scare you.. but if you don't find an external leak anywhere, you're going to have to replace your headgasket.

Goodluck.

Hi Chris, thanks for the reply, spoke to my mechanic and he said might be head gasket too....gulp, any idea what that'll cost to fix???? thanks

Get your mechanic to perform a cylinder leakage test. That will pinpoint the issue if there is an internal leak.
Headgasket job can cost anywhere from 400$ to 800$

When I had my Honda shop, I would charge typically $1000-$1200. But I do it right. I would replace all the gaskets, head bolts, change the EGR plate (which is a common failing item behind the head), timing belt, all seals, water pump, etc.

If you want to do a half assed job, you can probably get away with 500-600$
