Trouble fitting front speakers with Oversize magnet.

I bought a pair of Soundstream 6.5" speakers for my front. I drive a 97 EL. however the magnets are too big to fit in. I was jsut wondering if anyboyd had this problem before? Do i just cut aroudnt he plastic and bend some of the metal???

I heard somethign about needeing a spacer as well.. some help would be appreciated.

spacer should fix you up..
prob 1/2 "

i had to run 1.5" to get my OZ in and shave some of the door panel...you shouldn't have to go to that extreme

I agree with what Whiplash stated.

You can pick them up at any audio store for about $20

Thanks for your time

Well I tried shaving some of the plastic.. and now the magnet slides in but the outer ring just seems to big. If I use a spacer it'll stick out too far and the speakers will protrude from the door panel with gaps inbetween the plastic and the backside of the rim of the speaker.

Is this how is suppose to look?? I would like to use the original grill/cover if possible.

I had the same problem .... I cut the entire back piece out and just kept the ring part that remained. But just like you my speaker was slightly to big for the ring so I cut the ring in half salvaging as much as I could, mounted the speaker to the half then screwed it to the car.

hope this help a little

good luck
