For those **** about your car being stolen

ever thought of designing a setup to "plug" your car into a cord that goes to your room or anywhere in the house to an alarm?

just wondering.

It would be a good idea, very simple to do. Basically have an extension cord or some sort of simple plug in connector inisde the front bumper of the car... come home...park car...plug in cord... then go inside and set the alarm, so as soon as the cord is disconnected, or a door open inside the car (set up a relay with a NC circuit) so if your car door is opened your alarm inside the house goes off, and even if the alarm on your car is cut, the inside one still goes off... enabling you go get outside and save your car before it is stolen

not a bad idea, kinda whack but what if ur at a shopping mall... ?

It would be better if u could just dig a mot around ur car so no1 can steal it no matter what, only if they had a bridge.

all somebody would have to do is tap the cord and re-route power from an outside outlet or 12v source (power dependat)...sure the car alarm will go off...but the in house one wont...or crap if they are pro it'll be gone in the time its gonna take you to run up from the basement or whatever anyways

rather silly if you ask me, just boot your car if you are that ****

then use a astable multivibrator and make a square wave output... and as soon as that wave is changed or broken alarm goes off..

or grab a wire such as a CAT5 cable, use 2 strands from it, so the thieve has to guess which 2 wires you used, or carries a fulle instrumentation of tools with him and sets up a little lab in your front driveway

any way to help stop thieves is good, period.

In theory this is a good idea but is highly impractical due to the fact that this "teather" is basically a single location use kinda thing and is basically doing the same thing as a pager alarm...but moving backwards...like goin from a cordless phone to a corded one.

also how much cable do you plan on having spooled in the car (multi car houses, apartments, townhouses) you cant really be running cable all over the place.

true, anyway to stop thieves is good but if they want it they are gonna take it no matter what

but if you do come up with one I'd like to see it in action

I am a firm believer of running electrical current outside of your car.

I like the idea... I wouldn't use it, but I like it!

I'm prolly gonna run a reed switch juss for the helluvit

But I think the key is to stop the ATTEMPT to open the car. ie. shields inside the door to render the slim-jim ineffective. Also, a resonance sensor inside the doors so as soon as a slim jim is inserted or the door handle is lifted, the alarm goes off. Lastly a motion sensor for the perimeter of the car, except that way you may get false alarms.... and of course a backup siren under your dash to make his ears bleed!

As for your idea... why not make the whole thing a little more sophisticated? Where your parking spot is, insert magnetic sensors like they use for traffic lights, you know? Once you park, the sensor picks up a mass of metal over the spot and the 1st condition is set. Once you go inside, hang your keys on a hook where the weight of the keys holds down a switch and the alarm inside the house is activated. As soon as you take your keys, the alarm is deactivated.

but for both of the ideas they won't go off until after the car is moving... i'd rather spend extra time worrying about them getting into my car... how do you put sheilds in to render a slim jim innefective? i figure weld some metal in key places or what..?? lol i'm interested now, seeing as that's how they ripped me off...

think outside the box alex

the alarm will sound as soon as a door/hood/window is opened as long as you tie into the door contact inside/shock sensor.

all the cat5 wire is doing is transfering the data to your house, and as fail safe if it was cut the condition would go NO and set off the alarm anyways, so your safe.

You guys are making this way to complicated... why don't you just park the car inside! Then someone would ahve to break into the house then the car in order to steal it.
