Speedometer not correct, how to adjust?

My speedo is acting funny lately, not showing the correct speed. lol I was like hmm seems like I'm going pretty fast, yet the needle is pointing at like 40km/h.

Then I borrowed one of those display gadgets from a friend, attached to ecu and speed was totally different. When it's at 0km/h, both read the same. But when I am at say 40km/h with the speedo needle, the gadget display reads around 60km/h.

Any ways I can fix this? or do I have to get a new speedo? This is for eg hb btw. Thanks

if your speed is consistantly off, I'd think it's either your tire size or VSS. on the eg's Ive seen a ton of em have problems with the speedo, and it turns out to be the cluster. mine included. the head for the speedo gets corroded inside and doesn't read right. for a while mine did what yours is doing, then it started going all over the place like irt was possesed. Once i was pulled over by a cop and my needle was stuck at about where 260km/h would be if it were labeled. Then it just quit all together.

most likely the VSS and not the tires. an off size set of rubber will not result in that big a difference.

did you mess with the cluster? disassemble? you may just have to simply replace the chip behind the speedo unit, or pull the needle off and recalibrate it.

you can even just swap the km 2XX XXX part into a next cluster.

OFF Topic but...

how much of a difference would it make when say your stock tire size is 13" like the eg's and you put on 16" tires on.

depends on how much bigger it makes the diameter...... the bigger the tire less rotation so your car would think it going slower then it really is...
