Re-Routing Cruise Control Buttons

I got an aftermarket steering wheel and I'd like to have my cruise control buttons working. Can anyone advise where and how I could re-locate the buttons.

Thanks,

hmmm. I see. Where on the dash? I don't want to cut any holes into the dash. Is there a nice a neat way of doing this. Any suggestions Matt?

Are the cruise control buttons the small ones that fit on the steering wheel?

If so you can always mount them in an empty "plate" if you have one where some extra features go on your left beside the steering wheel on the dash.

they just pop out and you can mount the switch in there

Yes... It is the buttons that are located at the steering wheel. I don't have an empty plate. Damn... Matt... any other suggestions?

Thanks

if you are as incompetent as you sound, maybe it's best to let a shop do the work.

Wow Bruno. That's kind of a rude comment. For the record I'm not incompetent in any way.

If you don't have anything good to say then don't post.

Thanks

ouch....cant we all be friends?

you should grab some cruise controll switches form a 2001+ civic. they'd look pretty good just to the left of the steering wheel, like the stock place on the 2001+ civs.

im not good with 96-00's but there might even be a place to put the switch in the same spot with little modding. i know im my 92 hatch (dx)theres a place for the sunroof/fog switches that would be perfect for that oem look.(instead of some g-h-e-t-t-o setups ive seen for non-factory switches)

Look at that question... now think about what you're asking. If this is not something you can "figure out" on your own then you should let a shop handle it.

1st of all, I don't know you so **** off with using my name. Understood?? And if you ask a question like that and then claim not to be incompetent, maybe you are not only incompetent... but also dumb.

I get ****ing annoyed when ppl expect others on the board to do all the work for them. Hey, what's the best price? Hey where can I find this? Hey, my car makes noise? Hey, where do I mount this? Hey, how do I do this?

Look, it's called CUSTOM work for a reason. Use your head and figure it out.

I know what your talking about...But I don't have any empty slots to fit the cruise control buttons. I think I might just cut a hold in the panel beside the fog light switch to fit the cruise control buttons.

I hope it doesn't look stupid though. I know there's got to be a better way?

the better way to be to mount it on the plastic surround where the windshield washer and light stalks are.... the two plastic parts where the ignition is. It's appx the same shape as the steering wheel (round ) and it's cheap/easy to replace should you want to later on.

oh, and if you could post a pic of the buttons OFF the steering wheel that would help out even more!! cuz I dunno how the attach to the wheel itself.

Thank you very much bbarbulo for the information. I will post pic ASAP. I'm thinking that I'll mount the buttons on the centre console passenger side beside the parking brake.

Thanks again.

No prob... key here is to find a primo spot that closely matches the contour of the steering wheel area where the CC switch was mounted. Then depending on how the switch was originally mounted, you can mimic that same setup. Now... only other thing is... it's steering wheel mounted, which means there was a connection to the metal ring in there. You'll have to solder up the wiring, but that shouldn't be a big deal.... pics will help greatly

Well...I have an after market hub for the steering wheel. I can't imagine hooking up the cc buttons using the same fashion as OEM. That would be ideal. The main problem is the wiring if you know what I mean.

well, wiring won't be a problem if you are willing to do some soldering. ... take the connector for the switch and snip the wires, leaving enough room to do some soldering.... then, on the fixed side of the hub fish those wires out and tap into them (matching colors) and if you do everything OK then it should work no problem. and you are right, with the new hub there is no chance of mounting it in the same fashion on the steering wheel.

why not down by the handbrake, where those rectangles are that conceal the screws? or is that only on 96-00? if your new aftermarket wheel has 2 nitrous buttons, why not rewire them to be the 2 cruise control buttons?

Steering wheel does not have nitrous buttons. down the parking brake would kinda be difficult if I need to use the cc buttons.

Thanks for the idea. Isn't there some kit for this?

THose buttons on the wheel are ment for the horn, not fast and the furious nitrous buttons lol.

nothing says they cant be nitrous buttons, but the mfg designed them for the horn..

Do you have your horn planned out? Its part of certification to have a functioning horn.

And i think it has to be mounted on the wheel. Not 100% sure on that tho.
