Racing Seats ... Are They Worth The Trouble?

Been really tempted to buy some racing seats because I see a lot of them for sale for under $450 which I find to be a good price. Other then installation I was wondering what some other people with racing seats have to say about them. Not looking to buy the expensive Brands Like Bride/Sparco. I was more into getting the aftermarket knock offs like Yonaka or Bride Replicas. I'm basically concerned about ride comfort, I have seen a few complaints with people saying they are horrible for long drives. So lets hear some opinions. Let me know how they are for regular street driving lets say 1-2hour drives and road trips. Are they higher then stock seats etc.

Just really suspicious because so many people are selling the knock offs after only using them for a few weeks so something must be up with them.

I guess thats the difference with knock offs and "real" ones. Im using the Sparco bucket seats and I drive back and forth to Windsor (3 hours) and they feel fine. Also drove to Montreal for SCP last October and didnt have a problem. I guess the "real" ones are made better and are more comfortable?

You get what you pay for, that goes without saying. Ride quality wise, that has a lot to do with your suspension geometry.

Unless you are tall and in need of headroom so you can wear helmets during racing events, you don't need it. Stock seats have enough padding to give you the comfort but one must not drive with the "gangster lean", cause that kills your neck and gives you a sore neck and back.

Knock offs are for those who wish to get the "race car" look and like all appearance and exterior, you get bored quickly.

More or less wanted them for the look, but if the knock off are indeed painful on the back then its definetly not worth it. I'll see what some others say who actually own the knock offs before I make my descision. It's a shame the real ones are twice the price otherwise I would definetly get those.

imported_Red Fury Civic 28-Mar-2006 08:00 PM

i love mine and they are old and badly shot but i love them will be getting new ones this spring though and tehy are so shot i need pillows under my ass and back lol

imported_italstallion 28-Mar-2006 08:25 PM

ive been itching so bad to get gsr leathers does anyone have any feedback on those seats?

kwasley 28-Mar-2006 10:46 PM

unless your getting door skins, arms rests and rear seats in good condition, worn leather looks like ****, leathers dont look good.

and even then some people just dont like leather seats in civics.

i picked up gsr cloths for 150$ and they look clean and feel awesome.

10x better then stock ek.

imported_Fug 28-Mar-2006 11:32 PM

i have teknotik racing seats in my ek and they are actually quite comfortable, they recline and slide so its much better in my opinion than the seats that are just stuck in one position...they only get sore on the back after driving around for HOURS but thats only cuz my car is quite low and the bumps really get absorbed in the seat (and my back).....lol

imported_kungfugrip 28-Mar-2006 11:48 PM

I dont think i drive fast enough on the daily to need racing seats... do you?

imported_SaYjAiBaO 29-Mar-2006 12:20 AM

i've sat in recaro replicas and real jdm recaro. the replicas don't hold nearly as nice as the real ones and aren't anywhere near as comfortable either. the replicas don't hold that well around your shoulders.

This shows that you are going to spend the money again on replica seat which will eventually add up to that of a real one.

Some seats are expensive for a reason, while some, I agree, are just hypes and huge mark-ups due to popularity.

Recaro SRII starts at a fair price (no need for JDM version, since they are the same thing). Get one for now and if you see the need to pair them up, save some money and get another. Or, buy something else and move the driver side to passenger side.

grab the usdm itr's. most racing seats that are of decent price is ugly looking

imported_SaYjAiBaO 29-Mar-2006 10:39 AM

usdm itr are like stock integra seats with a little more padding. waste of money imo.

I ran the RSX type S seats in black leather last year....I was amazed....I think they are one of the best oem seats you can get from honda....If I was you I would spend the little extra and buy those....IMO

imported_Joker 29-Mar-2006 11:01 AM

the rsx-s seats :yummy:

Nova_Dust 29-Mar-2006 11:26 AM

Well i'm pretty set on not getting the aftermarket seats now :) Kind of upset cause I really wanted them... But its good to know I may save the headache of having to replace them or having a sore back from a longer trip. I would't mind getting stock seats, however I would prefer not to get leather and I want something that will somewhat match the interior of my car or atleast be a flat black or dark gray color. Any suggestions? or do I just have to keep looking until I find someone sellings seats that happen to have the right color I am looking for?

So far you guys have said

ITR, GSR (Are there major differences between the different models of Intergras?)

RSX-S (Doubtful though these are expensive)

Are the SIR seats any good?
