Questions About Short Shifters...

Are the short shifters really worth it? Do they really make a difference? For those that have them installed, what are your inputs on these? Just let me know, I would really appreciate it, thanks.

Thanks,
Fred

Yeah I love mine too. Its really sweet going through gears with it. You just flick it in and out. Gives the car a nice race car feeling.

I think its well worth the money. They are quite cheep too. I got mine for $40. I was told the cheep ones might break and snap in half, but so far (after 1.5 years) mine still works beautifally.

So yeah go for it for sure. After having a short shifter in your car, anyother stick car feels just lame....

Second best mod I have done to my car, next to snow tires that is

I had a lower quality Solo shifter. It was pretty good, but it rattled, and the shifts were a little too short. I was grinding gears sometimes, and the shifter was so short that I had to reach forward to grab it.

I up-graded to a Skunk2 shifetr that cost about 3 times as much as the Solo, but it's way better. The shifts are smoother, it fits way better, and I never grind gears now. A very good investment.

they are amazing... i can't believe I waited so long to get one... the throws are so short, my g/f has a stock civic and it feels like rowing a boat no joke... i thought people were exaggerating but damn... it's rediculous... a flick of the wrist is all it takes now, feels weird for the first little bit but then you just get used to it.

One question though, since you're modifying the pivots points for the shift lever how much more force do you need to actuate the shift?

I have a stock shift level and even though the throw is long, it doesn't take much effort to shift... I wouldn't mind having short throws, but not if I have to *strain* to shift...

Just wondering... Answers?

its increased slightly (physics of course) but its not enough to be noticable. just take it easy till your used to the feel or ur gonna end up grinding gears and butchering your synchros

One of my friends lastnight were telling me that, the putting it in gear is going to be harder than stock, like its going to take more effort. Is this true? Is the install hard?

Thanks,
Fred

Easy to install. It takes about an hour with the right tools. The effort to shift is increased a tiny bit, but the shifts are much quicker and shorter. Sit in someone's car that has a SS and try it. Oh, get some new bushings too. They are about $25 from Energy Suspension.

it's better than the schoolbus shifter that comes on the Civic stock

ohhhh the nicest shifters are on ITRs and Preludes - so nice, so refined *drooooool* Haven't felt an S2000 yet.... I'll wait till I buy one so I can surprise myself

If the additional "strain" of a short shift is too much for you to handle I suggest getting your baby sister to shift the gears...or maybe hit the gym or something cause that would just be lame.

In general, it is a good investment. You will notice the difference in the first couple of days, then after that, you will get used to it as if it were a stock unit.

Funny...

Let me pose this question to you.

If there was a door locking mechanism that would lock your door with 1/4 of the turn instead of the usual 1/2 turn but the effort was increased 200%, would you go for it?

Granted, the absolute required turning force would still be small, but neverless it would be an increase from the expected norm... I am simply trying to determine the "annoyance" factor. I bet you wouldn't go for it, so does that warrant a remark that you're a sissy because your can't handle it???

I didn't expect to get such a lame response to a legitamite question....
