Parking Brake Removal
Does anyone knwo how to remove the parking brake, so I can paint it. I had no trouble getting out the centre consol, and everything betwen the seats, but couldn't figure out how to get off the hard handle part or the rubber stuff. I also couldn't find anything in the Hayes repair manuel. Thanks.

Just removed mine 2 days ago to install an aftermarket one ;-)
1997 EX (sedan, 4 door).
The actual handle can just be pulled off, it just requires A LOT of force. You'll have to wiggle it around and pull at the same time.
took me and my buddy a while to get that bitch off ...
have fun ;-)

You're gonna have to hack it off...tried vice grips to remove it nicely...it's pointless, save your energy for sumthin' else. Your hand break will look all mashed and you'll probably need to get an aftermarket one...stay away from chrome.

well, u need 2 ppl for the job. and a set of pliers.
I wish I had a digiCam to make pics, but if you strip off the stock "leather" boot, you will see that the pipe that the plastic handle is on is cut in half. (you will see what I am talking about when you look at it ...)
what you gotta do is :
get your friend to take pliers and squeeze the "pipe" as hard as u can right where the plastic handle ends.
then pull on the handle as hard as u can and try to rotate it at the same time ... at first it will barely move.
once u move it a bit, squeeze the pipe again, right where the handle ends, and keep pulling untill u get it off ....
first 0.5 inches is the hardest , then it gets easier and easier.
and u really have to take turns with your friend 'cause it is pretty hard and u'll get tired pretty fast.
yes, I am a pretty big guy and so is my buddy who helped me

Now, I'm pretty sick of that aftermarket hand brake lever, and I regret it now.
Maybe I should pick up that MOMO one. Now that's a nice looking hand brake lever
