Need a little guidance with Head Units
I've have been trying to educate myself more on reading the specs of different head units, but a lot of the stuff on the internet seems to be outdated. For example some of the sites listed certain features that were considered top of the line at the time, but I am finding them in lower range models as well. Right now I have my mind stuck on getting a Pioneer Premiere Edition like a DEH-8600MP, DEH-P80MP, etc. Not looking for the newest latest or greatest since as you can tell I am not an audiophile. Perhaps some people can add or correct what I know already using the list below.
Currently use a 6-channel amp for Rear Sub and front speakers, rear speakers are stock and are connected to the head unit.
Here's the list of things I've researched to look for (Please correct or add)
- FM Sensitivity- 8-12dbf is good (Try to get Digital Processing)
- HD-Radio capable
- Higher Output Coltage the better 500mV=0.5 Volts (Try to get atleast 2V)
- Dedicated Subwoofer output
- 20hz-20hz (Not sure what this is)
- Preamp Outputs
- Detachable Face Plate
- Signal to noise Ratio the higher the better (Not sure what spec to look for)
- Digital time Correction

just to let you know, I've had bad luck with Pioneers and Kenwoods... also JVCs.... I'd recommend a Clarion, Eclipse, Nakamichi....
My Pioneer ate a CD and never gave it back... the Kenwood also ate a CD, but I was able to get it out with the manual release button, JVCs have always been crap... one of my Clarions stopped reading CDs after 2 years... I went out and got another Clarion now though, to give it another shot.

^^^^ Thanks for the heads up.
Right now I am using a JVC, it has never given me problems but the sound quality just seems nowhere near a Pioneer for instance. I would love to get either an Eclipse or Nakamichi but the cost is just out of my budget. I can get a good second hand Pioneer for around $250.

For under $250.00 you can get a brand new Lower end Eclipse(CD2000) which still is a better deck than the Pioneer, it's not fancy looking but it has a lot of good features and the sound quality is amazing. Check their wesite and read up on it at www.eclipse-web.com

I had an Alpine, it was an alright deck but it stopped working after like 2 years. Now I have a Pioneer Premiere Edition deck, and its awesome. The sound quality is pretty good. I have nothing bad to say about Pioneer, YET.
