Looking for YOUR opinion on in-dash navis

So i was thinking about getting a Pioneer F700 BT Navi, but a lot of reviews on the net point to many problems (even after the 2.0 update) with this unit. Just wondering what yall think about this product as well as your opinions on any other suggestions for a good in-dash navi system (pref with bluetooth, ipod, etc)

Tks

i used to sell the pioneers as it was the only model we had with the navi, but it was annoying as heck with the navi dvds, the hdd navi's were just crazy in price for the mediocre user interface.

I'd suggest going for a good in dash video (w/ the bt, ipod, etc) and just get a separate gps unit (eg. garmin) pricewise will be a bit cheaper, and you'll have much less problems with the navi. also the gps would be removable to use on other cars

bumping this thread.
So are you saying NO in dash navi's are worth it, or just the pioneers?

I'm looking at a kenwood one (the XVT 650 I believe) which is a motorized flip up screen with am/fm, cd, dvd, usb input, audio input and gps built in.

Don't think it's worth it? I just like the idea of having gps available ANY time in my car. not having to go home, get it from the house and ****. Just push a button and baam, there it is.

(Not to mention the bling factor of having a flip up screen for shows and to impress the ladies)

the bling is awesome, but updating is a b***h for the hdd ones and quite expensive as i recall, but if the price is right then go for it.. you could just keep the portable one in your glove compartment o_o? don't necessarily have to go home haha

I just figured for the price i'll pay for a good gps unit, I might as well get this.

A good gps unit + a decent cd/amfm deck for my car = the cost of an indash cd/dvd/navi unit. But I want a flip out, not a permanent screen in my dash.

HDD is hard disk drive? What makes them so hard to update? If I buy a new one, shouldn't all the hardware be current and therefore not need updating for a while?

a got a friend working at audio 2001 and he said it is better for you to get a nice gsp system separete and just get a nice video , radio , cd , mp3 deck ... He said those gps dont work too well and its a waste of money... I was looking at buying one long time ago but the nice ones are like over a grand ....

Have had the Pioneer X710BT for a few weeks now and I LOVE it. GPS works just fine, Bluetooth works great, Ipod control is a godsend.

I looked at Alpine and wasn't impressed that for the same price or more you get a headunit but still have to shell out for their Bluetooth drive/GPS drive which are seperate.

Looked at Kenwood and I liked it (Garmin maps rock!), but I was not a fan of the GUI at all.

The one I was looking at is a separate gps system technically. Does it count? I know they sell it at audio 2000 too.

Thats a stellar unit and the docking feature is great especially if you already have a blackbird unit to go with it. With that said though I must say as an owner of an alpine blackbird gps unit I would highly advise against buying it, its terribly unreliable and the mapping software on it is not very good and it only does 2D mapping. Like everyone else has said go with a nice quality am/fm cd unit and a garmin, tom tom, magellin, etc and you will likely endup spending less then you would on an all in one unit.

It's sad really that we have to decide with crap units here in Canada. Last time I went to Japan, my brother-in-law's 5 year old car had a computer unit in it. GPS has satellite imaging over head view option. Back up camera. Auto CD rip and store. This was a stock deck for Toyota Alphard.

I wish my phone was my deck plate.
