help choosing a sub

Need input on which 10" sub I should buy. Not looking to get fancy guys (on a budget here)... just some clear deep base, inside the car only. Hooking up to a Pioneer 240 Watt max two-channel amp with low pass crossover. Looking to spend about a bill.
Also, ported box or not? Looking for thump, but thump for my enjoyment, not the neighborhood.
Help!

As Matt always says, the name doesn't matter go out to a local shop or Future Shop etc. and listen to them all and decide which you like better.
But you can't go wrong with any of the big name companies for what you described.

I'd rather go to a big chain retailer if I wanted to listen to a bunch of different speakers. Small shops only deal with 2, maybe 3 lines of audio products. Of course they'll push the brands they carry.

Go to as many different shops as you can....listen....hen decide what you like best. Remeber, what might sond good in your friends car, might sound like crap in your car. Also, the box design plays just as an important part as the sub does.

totally agree with you, seen to many people go to a shop and say they want the same setup their friend has in his hatchback, then put it in there big sedan and wonder why it sounds half as loud.

box is key as well, so many of the shops with just throw any sub in any box expecting it to sound great, umm yeh lol.

ask pulovr about his 2 10's in his hatchback

That was in my old car. The box was pretty big, but it pounded. When I got the civic, I got a smaller box and put the speakers into that.....it didn't pound anywhere close to what it used to. Still sounded nice, but it lacked that "it's hard to breath in here" feeling like my old car did.

I then sold the box and speakers to a freind when I bought my new civic.

I should of kept the subs.

Stock systems SUCK!

if your willing to spend $50 more you can get 2 8's that will pound better than 90% of the subs everyone has mentioned.

IF your on a budget, consider the Rockford RFZ subs. Pretty decent entry level subs, they should match up well with your amp.
