Headunit wont save settings!!
Hi,
I have an alpine iva-w200 headunit in my 98 civic ex but everytime i turn off the car, the headunit would lose all the audio and clock settings. I checked the interior fuse and the fuse on the HU already and both are fine. The connections are also checked and re-checked. Are there any other fuse for the headunit in the car? HELP ME PLEASE!! THX

i checked all the connections...i dont think that's the problem but i manage to find a fuse in the fuse box under the hood. It's called backup (radio), but that one is only 7.5a. Could it be this one your talking bout?

either way, what is happening is your yellow wire is losing constant power. this is the wire that gives a little bit of power to your unit (he he) and allows for memory to be saved. You can directly connect your yellow wire to your battery, and this will solve your problem

If you wire your yellow into your RED power wire, your radio will seem operational. But once the key/car is shut off, it will lose everything.
Is this a new probllem, or has it just started happening?

um the 20AMP or whatever fuse people are referring to is not the same as the 7.5AMP fuse. the 20AMP fuse will clear the cell, if that was blown, your car would not start. now there is another fuse, dont remember whats the AMP but its labelled as radio. if that was blown, the radio would not work.
Get a multimeter and test the yellow [acc/constant] wire. you should have power coming to it.
also just a question out there, did you buy a wiring harness or did you just cut the wires and taped them up? because if you have a wiring harness, its very hard to mess up since all the wires are colour coded and match up to the deck harness. now you shouldnt always trust those colours thats why you must double check. also try getting another deck from somebody, maybe the actual deck is faulty.

good advice Scrider it is true that a "butcher job" generally yield this problem. I do disagree with the under the hood fuse issue. The radio still works cause it still gets the positive from the red wire. I gave my advice based on experience. It has happened to me. I'm not sure what the amp is on the fuse but I bet you he has a fuse blown in the under the hood fuse box. I was going to ask if the clock was keeping time as to isolate the problem but there is no guarantee he has a clock.
Has your problem been fixed yet ???

^^ if the deck is not connected properly, by that I mean red/yellow wires are mixed up, then it will still work with blow radio fuse. Now the radio fuse I'm refering to is the one under the hood. And I did have that blow on me once, and radio did not work.
Now the "butchered wiring" may cause problems. I never really paid attention to civic wiring, but my buddy cut the harness on his cavalier, and there were number of same coloured wires. If you want to just fix it without trying to figure out what is wrong, feed a wire of a battery, put in a 7.5AMP fuse in the line and connect it to the yellow wire on the deck. I'd suggest to attempt to fix the problem before resorting to this, but if you don't care you can just do what I said.

Wow...thx for all the advices but i think it's an internal problem cause i used a multimeter and checked that the yellow is giving constant power even if ignition is off and red is giving power when ignition is on but the HU is still not saving setting. I even changed the 7.5a fuse under the hood. I even tried connecting the a line from the battery to the constant line of the HU but still dont work. Is the clock fuse the one under the dash on the driver side? (yes, i have a clock) And this problem just started a week ago, it worked perfectly fine before.

Do you have the red and yellow wires from the deck hooked up to the factory harness correctly?
As per the 98 Civic service manual:
White/Blue = constant power.
Red = On with ign switch.

yea...the wiring should be correct cause i check the voltage and red only gets power when ignition is on and yellow gets constant power. I'm gonna grab a stock camry HU that i have lying around and try to see if it works with that tonight. Thanks for all the help!!
