CDR Playback Problems in Civic?

Sure most of you have heard or had this problem occurring.

99 Civic has initial trouble reading burnt discs. However, it suddenly starts playing the disc after about 5-15mins (depends on type of CDR - sometimes though it spits out the CDR if it cant read at all). Once it starts playing its fine. But if I try to skip a track, it again starts reading and reading, and wont play back for an indefinite amount of time.

Oddly, it plays back pre-recorded (store bought) discs fine.

I've tried burning the CDRs at lower speeds 10x, 8x, 4x, 2x. No difference. I think the problems started after the release of different 700MB CDRs.

Any ideas or hacks to get the player to read the CDRs like store bought CDs?

your best solution ... Aftermarket CD Player ... and you can even upgrade to the MP3 playback ones ... more music on the same 700 MB CDR ...

nowadays MP3 playback CD players are inexpensive ...

True but you can always take the deck back out when you sell the car and pop it in your new one, or sell it for a few bucks.

There are no 'hacks' that can be done to the original deck ... unfortunately the deck is not made to read CDR or CDRW ...

Look into Classifieds there are many decks for sale dirt cheap ... and like thrill_house said, put the old deck back when you want to sell the car.

Ok I'm thinking of taking the unit out next weekend:

*Any idea if I'll need an anti-theft code when removing the orig. deck?

*Or is it only needed when you are putting it back in?

*Also, did this model even have an anti-theft code?

*Or was it just the unit with the CD player built into the radio?

Here is a photo of the original deck
(PS. the stock radio is different on mine than in the photo - mine has the cassette player built into the radio and the CD Player separate like the one in the image)

My 2000 is has this issue sort of....Store CD's - Fine. Good Quality Burned CD's (i.e Memorex, Verbatim) - Fine as well. Cheap No Name Crap = FAIL.

I'd suggest reburning onto better Cd's or perhaps upgrade your headunit...Fairly inexpensive these days.
