Blown headunit?

Blown headunit?
I installed my Infinity crossovers and tweeters today. Played great, sounded great, etc. Then after like an hour, all of a sudden the power to the headunit seemed to fade in and out real quick for like 2 seconds, then it died. Now it smells real bad, and won't turn on or anything. Could this be due to faulty wiring? I thought I had everything right, plus it worked for a while before it went out? Bah this sucks

hmm. well before I had just been running the stock speakers. But the headunit still just went to one channel per side. it had just gone straight to the crossover, which then dispersed to the speaker and the tweeter. I would assume the fuses on the crossovers would have blown if it were something like that. I'm gonna take it down to a shop next chance I get. It just sucks not having a stereo

If you bought a component set AND used the stock speakers, then your deck was most likely seeing a 2 ohm load and would have made it go into protect mode or blown like it sounds like yours did.

even my new set will give me a load change..
i'm currently running a mid/tweet Honda OEM combo, but due to the impedence on each speaker it's "probably" running a 4 ohm load..
going to the new set (JL) and running their crossover will give me a 3 ohm load..

Marty 3 ohms?? Sounds odd, is that what there rated for? All the crossover does is direct the frequiencies, and shoulnd't change the Impedance at all.

k..
ya, it's a 4 ohm load on the new ones..
but i know for sure that the c/o did handle more than just seperation on the MB's
the result was a 4 ohm load and they were all 6 ohm load (3 way components..)
how they did it i dunno, but that's the way it was..
