96ex to 99 climate control conversion

Very nice mod. and that is exactly what I'm going to do too.
I have some questions.
So you got a 99 dash with climate control but you put the 96EX in the lower centre console. Is the wire for Heat/Cold useable or do you use it manually.
How did you extend the cable from dash to lower?
The climate controller is larger than the lower console , do you have the measurements?
My Civic EX had a tape but removed and I replaced it with a original empty hole with 2 cup holders , would it be good to use this or the orginal tape dash?
