2005 Honda Civic SRS light
 

Not sure if I have this thread in the right spot.

I have a 2005 CIVIC Si 4dr auto. I noticed yesterday my SRS light is on in the dash. How would I go about resetting this? I have the neg. battery terminal disconnected right now and I'll be reconnecting it for the drive home. (4hrs later) Also I checked the 10a fuse under the dash and appears to be ok. I'll use my fluke DVM on it later to make sure.

If the light doesn't go out, would there be any connections under the hood or around the car (where to look?) I can check just to make sure one didn't come loose or something?

check under the seats, there's wires there, if everything is fine, take it to the honda dealership, they cleared it for me for free, but then again, let them read the code before the clear it (so they can see where the problem is coming from)

Yeah I called Pembroke honda today. $100 to let me know what the code is and to clear it plus they said they need the car for two hrs or so. whatever...

I'll be heading down to Toronto this weekend. I might have better luck with a dealer there.

go to Richmond Hill honda, look for a guy in the parts department named Shane, awesome guy.

Could be an airbag problem. Could be a seatbelt switch.
Have it checked out and code recorded. Clear the light, and if it comes back, I recommend repairing the problem.

Worst case is that if you're in an accident the air bags will not deploy.

Edit: Do you think there is warranty left on it? I don't know your KM. But I'm also not familliar with the warranty on those for Honda...

Warranty only goes to 60k and I have 69K on the od.

I have an appt tomorrow with the dealer. $50 this time. WTF I don't even know why I'm taking it there. Nothing but a bunch of jerk-offs

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but has anybody on these forums ever had their seatbelt buckle replaced for free (i.e. covered under warranty) from any dealership in the GTA? I've called Honda Canada and they said the warranty for the seat belts only last for three years from the time the car was bought. If it helps, my srs light is on in my 01 Civic and I've already done the manual way of diagnosing the problem and it shows that its a 09-3 which is the faulty seat buckle

Why the hell would they cover a 10 year old seat belt buckle?

It is worth a shot...They are covered for the life of the vehicle in the US.

Damn so much hate. Anyways, ditto to what dazednconfuzed said. I actually knew that seat belts were covered for the lifetime of the car in the US from civicforums.com. Also there was actually a few people from Canada who got their buckles replaced for free from Honda (i.e. one being from Vancouver). I just wanted to know if anybody from the GTA might have their's replaced for free. I tried calling Honda Canada and they said that there wasn't any lifetime warranty on the belts and that it would only be covered under the 3 year warranty (which has obviously been passed)

Take a trip to buffalo and see if they care that it's a Canadian car or not? The stealership might not care, they might just warranty it to get the work in the shop. Find other reasons to go across the border first so the trip won't be a total waste if they don't of course or maybe call first and act like you're in town and your air bag light just came on, you've heard the seat belt thing was common for your car and you were just wondering....

They can't do warranty on a Canadian vehicle without authorization from Head Office. The claim would not get paid. As soon as they ran the VIN it would flag it as an invalid VIN.

That's pretty stupid on Honda's part. Every 01-05 civic needs a seat buckle at one point in it's life.

IIRC, It's not Honda's choice in the states all vehicle manufactures must warranty all seat belt and airbag stuff for the life of the vehicle, of course damage due to anything other then age and regular wear voids the warranty. That's why all the airbag stuff has gold plated convectors, gold is popular for stereo stuff cause it conducts better but another benefit is it doesn't corrode.

Yeah it sucks, just replaced the seat belt buckle on my 02' and went through the whole process of trying to get honda canada to warranty it but didn't get anywhere. In the end I just ended up buying a new one from the dealer I work for, it cost me around $150 which sucks but what can you do?

I was actually to fix my SRS problem. I bought an 05 seat buckle from somebody on Craigslist and ended up swapping mine with the 05s. The only problem was that the SRS connectors attached to the buckle had different terminals since I have an 01 so I used the old ones on my buckle and swapped them onto the 05s. After the installation, my SRS light was gone.

Good to hear that you fixed the problem, hopefully that one doesnt fail you down the road.
