Whale p3nis intake

Does it really make a difference in sound? And would you go for it over a CAI? I'm not asking performance wise... but for a nicer sounding intake... and to be safe from hydrolocking...

.. and yea imo i think a car should sound nice! even if it means compromising a bit of hp lol... unless you're tracking it of course..

Youtube some vids.

Never heard one so I can't say. Don't think they sound much different than a typical short-ram intake.

The K&N filter and Bpi velocity stack directly on my throttle body (b16 engine) with no pipe, I found yeilded the best hp gains......and sounds like it has itb's lol. I love it.

Filter on throttle body is probably best sound indeed.

I do have a whale ***** intake. That thing is so ****ing nice. Sounds nice. I have a stock D16z6 inside and i do feel it flows better. Sounds amazing. I don't even need an exhaust and my car is loud when i rev it up. Not like those cheap ractive intake that loses power and eats more gas. It is worth the $$$$. I put 1 for my cousins si civic too and it sounds mean. Don't expect a lot of hp gain though. It is more like a noise thing. I will never sell my whale ***** intake.

Those "cheap" intakes are essencially the same as most any other big name brand intakes and they dont cause the engine to 'eat more gas'... the driver does when they think their engine is making more power because it sounds cool, and they drive more aggressively.

Just because it sounds more powerfull doesn't mean it is more powerfull. The power gains from a whale intake are equal to or less-than any short-ram intake, depending on a number of factors.

Well the Ractive short ram intake i had before did eat more gas. Somehow i dunno why. It shouldn't but mine did. Those cheap intake with no name are not too bad too, but just doesn't make the same sound as the high end intake. I never said the whale ***** is more powerful.

Oh damn, only if I had a penny for every time somebody said that Aem or other brand name filters/intakes are better than cheap ones. How do you determine that it flows better? I have an hks velocity stack and at 6+rpm it sounds like a wastegate opens up. Not joking. Now power gains are so minimal, you can only tell on dyno. FYI 5hp you will NOT feel, unless your butt dyno is super sensitive.
Many people put an intake on their car and think that they just gained trillion billion hp and start booting the car. That's when you start loosing gas due to throttle being wide open and dumping a lot of fuel. Hell gut the car and the 20lbs will make you think that the car is so MIC quicker. It really isn't. I had my car gutted since I was doing some work and all the noise does make it seem "faster" until you run it down the track and realise it has done nothin.
So sum up, don't hate on cheap intakes since essentially its the same thing. Im sure with some custom tuning for pipe length you could actually achieve few extra hp. So just buy a pipe from home depot, make a bung, paint the pipe and also a k&n or hks stack with filter and be happy for half the price.

I may be incorrect but when you install a better intake that flows more there is more air going into the engine. If there is more air going in you need to be able to get that additional air out, which speaks to headers and exhaust. I can't see gains being very evident unless all proper mods are completed.

^^That is somewhat correct.

You will see more significant gains if you use an intake in combination with a good header and larger diameter/better flowing full exhaust system.
