Short ram intake help

hello everybody, just recently found out about this forum.

Currently I own a 2000 Honda Civic se 4dr, and was planning to buy a new intake to replace my old one. Was curious if I can just buy any short ram intake for civics(96-00) and install it in my car.

thanks

you need an intake designed specifically for the d16y7 engine.

Yeah make sure it's for the Y7 because there will be a hole for a sensor to be plugged in and it will have more of a bend at the throttle body end because of the position on the TB

Ditto, make sure its for d16y7. The intake must come up and do 90deg bend and go down the bay. If you just look around the classified section or kijiji you can find something for cheap. Or you can always buy an intake from ebay and get a nice k&n filter to go with it.

If you look in the DIY section and go to the last post there is a picture of the intake you are looking for. When you instal it you might have to fit it a few times as you might run into al clearance issue with your hood.

you just take everything that has to do with intake.the tubing, intake box. then install the new pipe with filter in the end.
depends if you decide to use a bracket to hold it up or not. mine just hangs down. doesnt really move around so its ok.

I would go with a full CAI.. Short Ram will just suck in hot, stale air from the engine bay and be useless for the most part.. Full CAI will place it in a place where it actually gets hit with cold air. And for the extra few bucks you can't really go wrong.

I have a y7, and i just installed an ebay short ram intake, installation took about an hour. This was the first time i removed something from an engine and added a mod to it. It was really easy, just need some common sense. If you have any q's pm me. I'll give you some help.

Yeah that's normal. And SRI or CAI do sound louder than stock.

but the funny thing is when my car is not moving i can hear the intake shaking cause intake filter is hanging right at the corner and nothing is supporting it. Maybe I should upload a picture to back up my essay. ^^

Did your intake come with a mounting bracket? If not you can pick one up at crappy tire or performance improvements. You'll probably have to bend it to make it work.

All kind's of misinformation in this post!

Glad that the OP didn't read this and assume it was truth.

SRI(short ram intake) = quicker throttle response and more lowend torque while sacrificing top end horsepower.

CAI(cold air intake) = peak HP performer (which is a useless number but lots of kids like to think its a big deal). It will also usually make the most noise but they also have a tendancy to hydrolock an engine if you drive through a puddle and step on the gas.

There are massive schools of information on the two options but I think the OP made the best choice for his needs.

So i guess I made the right choice? or the best choice? hmmm but anyhow my friend told me to get a CAI cause I need to cut some **** off to fit into my engine while in the other hand, SRI will work just as good at the same time, less money and less work.

But thanks for the info i appreciate everyone's help.
