Loose throttle

Looked up some threads but there wasn't many specific on this

the problem, stock b16 tb:
- loose pedal followed it to a loosy throttle cable
- tightened up the cable, pedal more responsive, but the throttle body seemed sticky, when you lift up off the pedal the butterfly doesn't close all the way and i have to life the pedal a bit during idle to close it off

is there somewhere i can get a stiffer tb pulley spring? or should i take off the tb and do a thorough cleaning?

would taking out the cruise control unit do anything, its not used since i had a b16 swap

you can try cleaning it.

If that doesn't help you might need to adjust the stopper screw/stud. Its under the pulley. I don't recommend screwing around with this unless you've tried everything else.

will do! i'll give it a clean first then i guess

is there a separate spring that pulls up the pedal? or does it just rely on the tb pulley spring?

I had the same problem on mine. Take the TB off and give it a good clean.

I have seen tbs get very carboned up and cause a sticky throttle plate. If its at that point you can remove the throttle blade to clean it and the bore. Another issue where you almost need a new tb at this point is where the throttle plate has been stopping on the aluminum bore and has created a gowdge. This is usually because of the throttle stop as zeeman mentioned.

I would begin by giving it a good cleaning and then check to make sure there is no gowdges on the bore.

Pick yourself up a new TB gasket, the one on there will most likely tear when you take it off, and make sure both surfaces are clean before putting the TB back on.
