hissing noise

Hey, I have a 99 Ac, EL. I have an intake on it, and when i drive normal, it's fine. But when I step on it, I hear a hissing noise(like air or something). the car drives fine(isn't turbo'd).

Any idea's,suggestions would be appreciated/

Thanks, Eirik

It's your intake. Because is is not as restrictive as your stock intake, you will hear it "sucking" in the air.

As I said in the Pm could be a bad ground... sound coming from speakers... check your battery terminals.

Don't think so. Like Chris has said, and myself, it is a common sound out of the aftermarket intake. Don't think a pin hole is going to make a hissing sound.

I have absolutely no knowledge about cars really but my intake on my old Honda made a hissing sound as well from the day it was installed so I always assumed it was normal.

I think so, mine and both sisters civics make this hissing noise at high rpms and its coming from the muffler area

i had that before, it's definitely the intake. If you have a generic no-name intake it appears to do that a lot, but it's nothing to be alarmed about....if it bothers you get a brand name intake.

like everyone says here, you get what you pay for.

You might want to re-read what he said.

No prob, but to me, high rpms and steps on it doesn't mean the same thing. At any rate, I think we can pretty much say it is his intake that is making the hissing sound when he "steps on it" LOL

Even a small 4 cylinder engine sucks in A LOT of air. Your restrictive stock intake tract which you removed when you installed your aftermarket intake was designed to quiet down the sound of all that air being sucked into your engine, especially when you 'step on it'. The aftermarket intake is just an aluminum pipe with a cone filter stuck on the end. There is nothing to dampen the sound of the suction and that is what you hear. Some air filters will whistle at different rpms, throttle positions. I garentee you 99% it's the air being sucked through the filter. (not a pin hole in your exhaust). Some times if you reposition the air filter on the end of the tube (just turn the filter) it will not whistle as bad. Can't hurt to try. The sound is normal so don't worry.

The only other thing is you may have a vacuum leak, look for vacuum lines that may be disconnected around the intake and intake manifold.
