High flow cat throw a CEL?

2000 SiR B16A2.

I'm going to full 2.5" header/exhaust.

Question: Anyone have any issues with a high flow cat throwing a CEL?

If so, how'd you get around it?

Thanks.

you can get one of those "Omni-Power CEL Fix" type deals. It sorta limits what the second oxygen sensor can read so no problems. Although I never used one before. There's also some electronic business you can do but I would first try the CEL Fix thingy.

on an obd2 car it is quite likely that it can cause the CEL to come on b/c the secondary o2 will be like WTF is going on with all the extra schmegma i'm reading.

Converting to obd1 always gets rid of all secondary o2 sensor issues b/c obd1 ecus only use the primary o2 sensor.

There is also a secondary o2 sensor simulator that you can use.

But if you're modding the b16 anyways, i'd convert to obd1 so you're ready for a tune if/when you decide to tune it.

Thanks for the info.

Just tell me what I need to do to make it work. I won't be converting to obd1 anytime soon. I won't have the money for that for a while.

One step at a time.

converting to obd1 will cost less than what your exhaust does.

I'm not sure about those o2 simulators as I've never really used one doing what I do. But I have seen now a few times the CEL come on after someone installed a hi-flow cat on their obd2 cars.

From ebay the o2 simulators are only about $50 US, so it should definately be under $100 CDN by the time it gets to you....which is about half of the cost of converting to obd1.

Ok, I'll probably try one of these simulators first. I just need it to work for now.

Just out of curiosity, how much would it cost to convert to obd1 and what all is involved?

I'm sure you've answered this question a million times already, so I apologize.

Thanks.

all you need is a chipped obd1 ecu and an ecu conversion harness, its plug and play.

Check your PM.

Ok thanks.

I'm gonna try the double sparkplug non-fouler trick first. Quite a few people say it works. Only costs a few dollars.

obd1 conversion will come later on.
