Angry Custom cat back

I keep reading about salt damaging the welded parts of a custom cat back. is it possible to rust proof the underbody so it wont get corroded or rusted up like?

Can't really do much for the exhaust as far as rust proofing. It's gets too hot for any rust-proofing substances.

Don't listen to MPR. Go ahead and get some rust proofing in a spray can and spray your whole exhaust starting at the manifold. that way nothing will rust ever! and while your at it...put some sugar in your gas...it gives your car a sugar high and will run faster from light to light.

^^ stupid comments aside...

Get stainless exhaust and you'll be fine. Could coat it with bbq paint, but in reality the weld will hold just fine...

not stupid, just plain dumb... he should be able to guess that by the sugar comment. seriously though just DONT run your stainless exhaust in the winter and it will last many more years. its not usually the welds that fail, its the pipe or muffler right beside the weld that fails. do like dtp says and paint it all with some bbq paint to add a little protection.

I built my whole custom 2.5" exhaust system with cheap pipe from crappy tire and used mild steel welding rods to weld it all together. This was 2 years ago and it's still all completely fine. Didn't cover any of it with anything.

I'm running a sk2 cat back for 3 years, no rust issues. OBX header for 5 years no issues. Even with the flanges of my Magnaflow cat being welded on to it at a shop to "custom fit it" I've had no issues in the 2.5 years since i out that on. I waited till right before I had to run an etest to install the cat in case my car failed with the crappy "OEM" style after market one I put on when I bought my EH3, which it did fail and then when I put on the fresh one from Magnaflow, it still failed but not as bad.

All that said, the last 6 months I've been on an island where it barely snows ever and lots guys run test pipes cause there's no emission testing required for people out here.
