Civic k20 exhaust too loud
I have a eg civic with a K20a2. My exhaust system is a 2.5 inch with Cat and vibrant exhaust. I know the vibrant exhaust is kind of loud. when i brought the car it came with it. Now i want to change it to a quiet 1, but i don't want to lose performance. What are the suggestions that i can buy? I'm a mechanic myself so i know what i am doing, but i just want some advice. Hopefully someone with knowledge can help. I asked the exhaust places and they said put a resonator on. I don't think that will quiet down a lot. I just don't want any cops pulling me over. If i put a RSX OEM muffler would that lose just 1-2hp? Some people say remus exhaust. What other route can i go? I want as quiet as possible or at least street legal with no cop attention.

If it doesn't have a resonator already, put one on and try that. It will make a big difference.
I say it all the time, a good quality resonator will help make a good sounding exhaust system.
If you find it's still too loud, try a different muffler.
What type of muffler is on it now? Flow through or baffled?
I'm using a modded cherry bomb turbo muffler which has lots of baffles inside and is quite quiet to begin with yet it's 2.5", and still flows quite well. I haven't really noticed any drop in performance, but infact maybe a slight increase in mid-range torque, if anything.
Something I've learned is on a daily driver, not to worry about the extra 1hp gained from a loud exhaust, instead, make it comfortable to drive. Your ears with thank you. lol

doesn't happen often, but I couldn't agree more with MPR on this one.
A resinator is $90'ish, and will make a huge difference. Also, if it's a canister muffler, after getting a resinator, try buying a silencer for it.
I enjoy the sound of the Si exhaust, so maybe switching to the RSX Type-S muffler (assuming there's a difference in models) wouldn't be a bad idea. Research how restricting it is, or do the opposite and see how much power your current muffler adds, and see if it's a loss you're willing to take. A friend of mine uses a SiR muffler on his D series, sounds terrible IMO, but he's happy with it, and it's not loud.
Peter Mackenzy's (sp?) rally car is using the Cherry Bombz Glass back, and it does sound good!

As mentioned above, add a resonator.
Also something to keep in mind is you want a bit of back pressure. Its N/A so back pressure will actually help with low-mid torque.
Now the 1-2hp you are worried about, loose 5lbs and the difference will be covered

I have a Brullen, it has a great tone, and it's a tad bit on the loud side. Remus has a very similiar tone, but are much louder. Too bad brullen is no longer i will cry if mine ever breaks cause i'd never be able to get another!!!!

I recommend magnaflow stainless round resonators. Excellent quality and I got mine for abour $100.

So my final decision after my research is done.
I would go with the Ultra Quiet Resonator or the magnaflow 12640 27".
Which 1 would be more quiet? The more quiet the better for me because i will use it for street use too.
Anyone try these before?

I'm not too sure about this but I think the muffler itself won't make much of a difference if you get a quieter one. At least for turbo Subaru's the whole catback doesn't affect much performance, only the downpipe or header for the Civics.
