Question Best Size Exhaust? Turbo D15

My question is what size piping/exhaust should I use on a Turbo D15B with approx 200whp. I'm buying everything needed for my setup this winter and would like to know.
2.5" or 3"?. I use to have a 240sx and I know everyone runs 3's on there turbo setup but my little honda is only a 1.5
I was going to buy a pre-made name brand one but since Im a welder (and looking for a better job lol) I'll just fab one on my own and save myself some getty green!

^ Thanks tips...what size is it? and as for the other question how much boost/ turbo size. Im still looking in to what setup I want. Im looking at the greddy 15g turbo kit or i'll piece together my own with a garret T3/T04e tubro and run 7-8psi nothing to crazy.

If anyone know of a good turbo setup for a d15b vtec something that will spool quick with good gains, looking to hit 200whp. I'm all ears
Thanks guys

For a 200whp turbo D, a full 2.5" exhaust system would be fine. 3" wouldn't hurt either.

Turbo's generally like larger diameter down pipes/exhaust systems. Back pressure is not so much a factor with turbo'd engines as it is with NA engines. You want the least restriction after the turbo as possible.

+1, but the engines displacement plays a huge roll in this as well.

3" is overkill for only 200whp on a turbo D-series. 2.5" is MORE than capable of 200+ whp with ease.

3" seems like an overkill, but less restrictions for turbo the better. of course the exhaust side will have a play in the size but big or small, 3" ehxaust wont hurt it.

seeing as everybody who boosts their car and says they only want XXXwhp always wants more, I say go with the 3".

It will be easier to hit your 200whp goal now, and will help you make more power when you want to upgrade (you'll want to upgrade trust me).

I'm not a fan of the greddy turbos, they're kind of small and don't provide the top end power most of us are after. I'd probably use either good sized t3 or a smaller t3/t4, something with a .48 a/r since the D's don't rev super high.

^true.

On our MR2 turbo we're current making around 200whp+ using a custom fab'd 2.5" downpipe/exhaust, but down the road when we want 300+whp, I'll have to build a new 3" system.

i think 2.5" will do since if I want more HP id have to start doing internal work and thats not what I want with this car.. just a nice 200-220whp will do me fine
Thanks for the help

Would a Garret T3/60-1 .48a/r be good or would a Garret T28 be better?
since ive never owned a turbo I dont know what all the number and letters mean. i just want a quick spool and nice power that you can really feel

knowing your goals the t28 would probably be better. If theres any chance that you'll want more in the future go with the t3/60-1.

The t28 will spool quick on a D. I've done several D's with t28's and they work pretty well.

Yes you'll be able to make 200-220whp on a 2.5" exhaust but it will take more boost and you'll make less torque compared to a 3" exhaust.

I've got a 2.5" on my car and it makes 285whp 190wtq @ 12psi. A 3" exhaust will be one of my next upgrades (I have almost all of the materials I'll need already) so I'll have some dyno results to show the difference.

We're running a t3 60 trim turbo (from a mid-80's single turbo 300zx) on our MR2 (1.6L 4agze engine) and it doesn't get to full chat until about 4000rpm.

On a D series, like zeeman said, the t28 would be a better match for your goals.
