Best Header for 00 Civic?
Hey guys,
Installed a short ram intake while back, now looking for header, just wondering what I should be getting.
ie. 4 - 2 - 1
or 4 - 1
also, whats my average price cost on that... cause for the sake of argument Ive been looking on Ebay just to see and noticed a few going for like 30 + 50 shipping (4-2-1) in my opinion, (i like a deal) but that seems like too much a deal, I dont know, you tell me.
Thanks in advance
Darryl

Also... will a new header though after market and more flow going through it...
Will it fit my existing piping, not looking to do a complete exhaust swap now.
PS, will I need to get a cat? heard something about my cars cat being attached to my existing header.

If you have a Y7 motor then yes your header and cat is one unit. The only option you would have for that motor is to get a header for a Y8 motor and then add a cat to your exhaust system. Don't cheap out on a header. Cheap headers will crack, rust and look like *** very quickly. But on the other hand, you don't need to spend a grand for a header for your needs.

Check out this thread, and scroll down to Trybal's post to check your engine code.

Thanks I did end up finding my engine code and it is a D16Y7. But still my questions remains, I understand that by swapping out my header I'll need to install a Cat with my exhaust line.
so which is better, 4-2-1 or 4-1
also... should I get the one that has a down pipe connected, kind of like a Long L, or simply the manifold

I would go with a 4-2-1 header. A good rule of thumb is that 4-1 makes more power at the top end and a 4-2-1 makes better low end. but I've seen a few dyno tests that shows them fairly close. The long L piece you are refering to is part of the entire header. It's just that some are 1 piece and some are 2 piece designs. You'll find that majority of the 4-1 headers are a 1 piece and the 4-2-1 are 2 piece. You have to be careful with cheap parts, you get what you pay for, and you can never really tell the quality of the part, or how long it would last.
