2000 Civic - Cracked Exhaust Manifold
Alright, so in class yesterday w/ my teacher I had my MIL (check engine) light on so we scanned the code and came up with the O2 Sensor S1 (Bank 1).
He immediately assumed it was the O2 sensor but today with my other teacher we took the heat shield off the manifold to get to the O2 sensor (because refrigerant lines are in the way, both high and low pressure side) and whadya know, the exhaust manifold is cracked...
my question is... where the hell can I get another one and how much do they generally go for?
Is a 2000 Civic SE a D16 or a B16 engine... im gonna assume B16 but I have no idea... its a 1.6L

its a d16....the b16s only come in the SiR and don't suffer from this all too common cracking exhaust manifolds like the 96-00 d16s do.
An aftermarket exhaust manifold is roughly $300 b/c it has the cat attached to it. Its pretty easy to replace if the bolts aren't rusty and break.
A manifold from honda is like $1000+.
This is a super super super common problem with these year civics and if you have your car for long enough, you'll prolly experience this again.
I just changed another cracked manifold on my cousins 00 civic LX. This one lasted her about 3 years. We used another aftermarket manifold b/c she prolly won't have the car for another 3 years.

ya, there was nothing wrong with the cat (on my cousins car), its just that the manifold cracked again....her car passed emissions no problem. The problem IS however, if your CEL is on, technically they shouldn't even run your car for the etest.

those manifolds has a recall on them. Just go there and they will replace it for free. but beware!! they will try to charge you for something that they can find. like the heat shield or o2 sensor seizing into the exhaust manifold. Just my 2 cents.

hmmm i should check mine....
my 00 si threw a cel tuesday. havnt got around to checking what the code is.
i have a feeling my cel is from my o2 or my cat. i broke a baffle in december, havent bothered replacing the cat yet.
