1998 SI exhaust question

My buddy has a 98 SI and the exhaust is finished. Header/Manifold is cracked and the rest of it is in very bad shape. He's looking at an NI catback system (JDM via Ebay so I doubt its very good?) but has some concerns about fitment. He's looking to put something cheap on his car since they just bought a house and will likely ditch the car in a year or two. Anyways he's wondering if this will mate up to a stock manifold or will he have to buy the JDM NI manifold/header/cat (front portion) of the exhaust to match. The catback is a 2.25". Won't most catback systems mate up to the stock headers/manifolds?

Any info would be great.

Thanks.

Cat-back exhaust systems are just that - the whole rear section exhaust from the stock cat on back to the tail pipe.

If it was made as a cat-back kit for that specific car, then it should just bolt right up to the stock cat.

Hope that helps.

Then I would recommend a used exhaust from another Si or an SIR. They can usually be found for under $150 in the classifieds here and on other forums.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll let him know. He's been trying to find a complete stocker for a while and hasn't had much luck. Most of them don't have the header portion or are in pretty rough shape. Either he'll find one soon or he'll be replacing the entire thing with new parts. It's getting pretty loud!

Thanks again.

The diameter is bigger. Im not too sure but i think the SI is 1.75in and the SIR is 2in.
