zc help

hey i jus picked up a zc in a ef it has a spun bearing i was wondering how hard of a job this is and can it be done from the bottom end fairly easily and does anyone know where i can find a diy thread for it if there is one around.

Because of the spun bearing .... you may want to check and make sure that cylinder is not out of round.
Are the walls scarred up?

Check to make sure the crank journal is not out of round.

If you have the crank out already replace all the bearings.

Check the condition of the rod because if its worn and you replace the bearings it can sill slap.

You may well be better off with a different motor.

x2

for what you would pay for the bearings ($300 from honda), piston rings ($120 from honda), headgasket ($80) and any machine work that may need to be done (i'd at least resurface the head....$60-100), you could grab another used engine and put that in your car.

the guy i got the car off sed there was a knocking in the motor and he drove it for like 2 days then parked it he said it was a spun bearing and i was wondering if i can do the work from the bottom end without taking the head off..

Also what motors bolt up to a zc tranny

Does the head need to come off can i do it jus by takin off the oil pan??

imported_91SiRacer 12-Jul-2007 02:30 PM

It will be a lot easier to take out the motor and rebuild or just replace it.

Wow guys he just want to know if it can be done from the bottom..... Yes it can be done from the bottom if all you want to do is put in bearings and run. It is better to do the whole thing but if your just looking for cheap and fast go for it.

Maybe you should send the $25 for a haynes repair manual from CT.

The ZC well the SOHC version is almost the same as the D16

Hit the Nail on the head with his Reply! All he listed is necessary to check/replace when your talking about a spun bearing.

You have to pay to play, but like others have suggested in your case (stock motor) you may be better off just getting a good running used motor with all the expense it would cost you to rebuild the current one you have..............UNLESS you wanted to build it!

well im gonna take a look at it and see if it is just the bearing it doesnt hurt to look i guess..
