basically the gearing is the same
P20/B000 d16z6 tranny
1st - 3.250
2nd - 1.900
3rd - 1.250
4th - 0.909
5th - 0.750
Reverse - 3.153
Final drive - 4.250
S40-K4F d16y8
1st - 3.250
2nd - 1.909
3rd - 1.250
4th - 0.909
5th - 0.702
Reverse - 3.153
Final drive - 4.250
The tranny from the d16y8 has all of the same ratios as the d16z6 only difference is 2nd gear and 5th gear from both trannies. On the d16z6 tranny 2nd gear ratio is 1.9 the d16y8 2nd gear ratio is 1.909. A shorter 2nd gear is nice and all but keep in mind your rpms will drop more on the 2-3 shift.

okay cool, its just i have two trannies with bad bearings in em at work, ones a z6 tranny, the other is a y8, i ordered all new bearings to rebuild me one but just didnt know which to choose. I was pretty sure i was gonna use the y8 cuz its newer but now knowing its a bit stronger due to the steel, ill use it for sure.
thanks everyone
