Would you buy a Turbo kit?
 

Hi guys.
I just want to ask a simple question. If you had the oppertunity to buy a complete turbo kit, and I mean totally complete, with all quality parts, that still managed to be very competitavly priced, would you buy the kit?
Or would you still prefer to piece your own kit together?

why i say Piece it b/c u get to build it to the WAY U WANT IT!

so buying quality and top notch stuff...

the problem with most kits is that they need modifying in some way to make them fit properly so you might as well go the custom route to make sure everything is exactly how you want it. if the price is so good you can't pass it up then go for it. i chose to piece my kit because i made everything except for the hard parts like the turbo, bov and wastegate. i made my manifold, downpipe, chargepiping and intercooler, i did make my own bov, but it didn't work as well as i wanted because the spring was too weak, but i might just get a stonger one and try it again.

name all the pieces+ brands and the total price. And condition.

complete kits suck..

as you may or may not know.. all my parts alone cost around 1200-1300$.. with tuning and everything, plus the cost of oil, misc. fittings, etc.. itll be under $2000 and ill easily hit 200whp

I see where you guys are coming from, and personally I would piece my own kit as well. There is obviously the benefit of choosing the right setup for your own needs. But then again, not everyone has time to look for parts or the knowledge, so I just wanted to get a general consensus.

As for the kit itself, its just hypothetical. While piecing my own turbo kit together I ended up spending about $1400 for parts. So I thought if maybe there was a complete kit out there with all these same quality parts for about $1600, would people be willing to spend the extra $200 and not have to look for parts themselves, or get custom work done.

i would say if its that cheap and your willing to make the work quality good people would buy the kit for $1600 thats not that much for a fully complete kit.

If you buy every single piece to your kit, you also get to learn how it works/what it does, its a learning experience. When I bought my pieces, I learned a lot about how it all works.

And i dont want to sound like a prick, but goodluck finding a good kit for 1600$.. they are rare and usually something is wrong with them.. and theres always missing parts.. for example.. itll probably be missing fuel management, or a resistor box, its just the little things that add up.

If you don't have time to do custom job, or know someone who can do custom job (mind you, custom works done by others also cost money), you are better of getting a kit.

i bought a whole kit only because i think i got a great deal on it..... i bought a complete greddy kit for 1200 US..with the exchange rate that only came to 1440. The kit was new, and i did not have to pay taxes or duties because i got it shipped to a buddy's house in buffalo and just picked it up from there.

Putting a kit together has its advantages, you get all the parts you want not what the set packages a kit includes. It can cost more than the price of a basic kit if you want all the goodies, ie. defi gauges, ball bearin turbos, etc..(considering you're buying everything new and not going junkyard style).

But we have people on this board that can really help you out.. ie. weirtech...he does great work...and could probably save you a couple hundred.

Chris si98 - I think he meant in general IF Kits cost 1600... would u opt for the extra 2 bills over the 1400 if pieceing it togther!

Thats what I got from it.. atleast I think i did when I wrote it.

I still wouldn't spend the extra $200 for the reasons I listed.
