would i be losing much if i put a stock muffler on my civic?

right now it has a DC 4-2-1
and 2 1/4" piping all around
with i don't even know what brand muffler lol and it's killing me because all i hear is the muffler on the highway and stuff like that... i'm thinking of going back to stock,
just cut the inlet, make the hole bigger n just welding rite on or something like that... would this cause any problem?
like too much pressure due to the sudden reduce of size in the end?

im not 100% sure but you can get high perfomance mufflers that won't make a crazy amount of noise....

you can get a regular baffled (quiet) muffler with a 2.25" inlet/outlet for cheap from like any exhaust shop.

dont hack up a stock muffler, you can find a generic 2.25" ID muffler anywhere. You wont lose much power. For example, Flowmaster mufflers, on a muscle car pushing approx 300 horse is proven to not flow much better than 5cfm over stock. So really, you could very well think it feels faster, when in reality it just sounds faster. my .02, money in the bank.

dont use a stock muffler, they are less than 2"diameter. you will be choking the engine resulting in a loss of power.

hey guys for everyone that wants like a stockish muffler, CT sells these muffs called cherry bomb turbo,, u can get them in 2.25, 2.5, and 3". Have a "s" type design, i had one on my jeep YJ sounded awesome.

It looks stock, not loud but it flows better than stock, and there very cheap 40 bucks.

Get ITR muffler. They are not load, and they flow a lot of air.

just wanna point out..think of a chain.. its ONLY as good as its weakest LINK.. meaning..if you have a titanium chain with one aluminum link, its only as good as aluminum...

so.. this being said..your exhaust system will be pretty much just as good as stock, maybe a little better...

i like that analogy there, makes sense lol...
i just want something maybe a tiny bit louder than stock, so i guess i'll check those up... thank you all for your inputs.

ITR, Magnaflow, CT, and some muffler shops... i'll check'em out. My car's not the the loudest but it's hard to have phone conversation without letting off the gas on the highway that's the thing.

thx again guys, really appreciate it

this is a bad analogy, seeing that you never even bothered to consider which component of the stock system is most restrictive to flow.. if for example the stock manifold was most restrictive, and the muffler was in fact overenginered for the application, then using that muffler on an aftermarket better flowing header and piping will in fact make it much better than a stock system

I actually just had a local shop weld in a 2.25" muffler for a truck on my DA. It looks like an original DA muffler, but I have full 2.25" piping and full exhaust. Its noticeably quieter but with a unique sound, and I dont think I lost much top end, over my rather loud magnaflow. It was $90 installed!

ummm... he just said he has a dc 4-2-1 header... i think i would consider that as being less restrictive than a stock one :P
