worried about my motor.

ok i own a 2000 Sir with approx 67000 km. few things i'm concerned about that maybe you guys can help me out with.

1. My car idle's really low, to the point where it feels like sometimes its going to stall on me. Not sure whats causing this problem.

2. I hear a slight ticking noise, i'm wondering if i need a valve adjustment?

3. When i was installing my itr valve cover i snapped one of the bolts. its one of the ones that comes through the centre where the grey plastic piece is. i dont know how else to explain it.

4. Everytime i make a left turn i hear a click. I'm assuming its my front driveshaft?

if you guys can help me out i'd really appreciate it. i'm not sure how much all of this is going to cost me if i take it to Honda but if you guys have an idea how much all this is going to cost please let me know.

thanks

The click is probably the cv joint. Get under the car and check to see if the boot has been punctured.

As far as the tick sound, a valve adjustment is only $90-100 at honda, do that and see if it goes away.

Try to take a pic of that bolt your talking about.

drive shafts are a piece of cake to replace

if its indeed that buy a rebuilt unit to save $$

somebody abused the **** out of this car my car is a 98, one owner, 114,000 kms apx. - I don't have any of those problems.

I estimate at the dealer that it would be about $1000 parts and labour. That's just a rough guess.

when you were doing the ITR cover, you didn't adjust your valves at the same time :richslap:

is it ONE click or is it a series of click click click...

if it's ONE click it's most likely upper ball joints.

Also, your idle could be valve-adjustment related! OR it just needs plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

lordm 07-Apr-2004 01:29 PM

his idle problem could also be the idle set screw has backed out

kwikb16a2 07-Apr-2004 02:09 PM

i had the same idle problem and i cleaned the throttle body out and the problem went away. Its worth a shot

i wouldnt say i really abused my car, i do push it once in a while but i dont kick in vtec everytime i shift.

i didnt touch the valves when i installed the valve cover. heres a pic of what bolt i'm talking about. it snapped in half when i put the nut back on, i over tightened it and broke it. i know, i'm a f***en idiot. :banghead:

as for the clicking when turning left, its only one click.

$1000 for parts and labour????

bbarbulo 07-Apr-2004 10:47 PM

if you've had your car since new, then you raped it.

the one click is prolly the upper ball joint - need new upper control arm

as for the valve cover bolt, buy a new one at the dealer. what else do you expect us to say?? don't feel bad though, I've done it before too :( sucked big time!!!

Also, there's nothing wrong with going in vtec everytime you shift, just as long as its when your merging onto the hwy.

psssssffffft. i snapped one of those bolts on the valve cover last year. havent replaced it yet..ahahhaa.
itll be fine. itll let a little bit of oil out over time though. nothing a little rag and a wipe cant take care off. Ill buy a new one , one day.
if your car hasnt had a valve adjustment by now. do it. thatll be the ticking noise although most honda's sound like that naturally.

you must drive your car hard cause ive beat mine senseless , has more km's and is in way better shape then yours.

you sure when turning its one click? is it only turning?

if cant do the stuff yourself but you wanna save money take it to scott 93 hb si. he can be reached on clubsi(and maybe here..not sure)

imported_Torrey 08-Apr-2004 12:17 AM

Yea talk to scott on clubsi for sure.

try adjusting idle from idle screw on TB, or check IAC cuz it might be dirty/clogged... but both seem unlikely on such a new car.

imported_JookSingKid 14-Apr-2004 12:39 AM

never touch the idle screw
:tsk:
