wiring issues

i'm swapping a JDM ITR 97 spec motor into my eg hatch, it comes complete with wiring harness and stock p73 ECU...i did some research regarding this swap and basically they say use p72(obd1 GSR) ECU instead and use USDM type R wiring harness and convert from OBD2 to OBD1...my question is that is it mandatory to use p72 ECU? or is there a way to wire up the swap using the p73 ECU, thanks a lot for help in advance

can someone tell me why?
i would like to know.....if he has all the stuff ie. harness (complete), ecu and motor wouldnt it be just easier to use that instead? or is it cuz of the obd2 to obd1 conversion?
in which case i still think just putting a p72 ecu with a conversion harness (depending on what year ecu it is) would be easier then extending the wires and soldering them and tape it back up or shrink wrapping it.
